A really good year! My favourites are the songs from Spain, Greece and Finland.

Definitely a special year. With all the bizarre stuff going on (Marlene Charrell's trainwrecking presentation and the giant electric heater stage), there were plenty of good songs and a nice mix of traditional ESC songs (like Luxembourg, France and Portugal) and songs that screamed 80's all over (UK, Austria, Belgium). This was also the year of probably the unfairest zero ever, Spain's Remedios Amaya, but it was understandable because at the time ethnic songs didn't fare well on ESC (and her hotel bedsheet dress didn't help). Had Spain sent it a few years later, it would definitely be more appreciated. On the other hand, Turkey's zero was totally deserved.

83 is the best year musically. Almost all the songs are winner-quality (even the nuls are entertaining), and the orchestra make everything sound incredible. If it wasn't for Marlene, the tiresome production, and arguably the wrong winner, it would be considered more of a classic in the fandom.

My top 10 is:10) UNITED KINGDOM Catchy and 80s-ish. 9) AUSTRIA. Catchy. 8) LUXEMBOURG. Good, but not a winner. 7) YUGOSLAVIA. It used to be my winner, but now I have other favourites. Their 2nd best entry after Željo Moja. 6) BELGIUM, land of guilty pleasures in the 80s. I can't help it if I love this song and "Euro-Vision". They are catchy and modern. 5) SPAIN. It's memorable and I love the ethic feeling in this song. But I can understand why it got 0 points: she seemed nervous on stage and the lyrics are quite random, but I love this song anyway. 4) SWEDEN. Great, but for me her best entry is "Invincible". 3) ISRAEL. Their 2nd best entry after Rak Bishvilo. R.I.P. Ofra. 2) FINLAND. My favourite Finnish entry ever, it's so catchy and 80s-ish. 1) FRANCE. This is wonderful, especially in the verses. In my all-time top 5.

Munich 1983 was quite disappointing, especially after the awesome Dublin 1981 and Harrogate 1982. A lot of songs were quite forgettable and I never found anything special about the winning entry. My favourite entry was the British song followed by the Israeli one. I enjoy all the songs from the Nordics. They are all in my top 6.

It was one of the strongest years ever for the contest, and also very strange. After some researchs and watching all the contest, the audience's favorites were Sweden, Italy, Yugoslavia, Israel and, course, the host Germany. Those entries (that I related) became hits in Europe, except the winning song. Isn't funny, huh? My personal Top 5 is: 1. Italy (the live performance is one million times better than studio recording version - pretty sure that's the definitive version .:. and Riccardo Fogli nailed it! He's still ellegant, has charisma - caught all my attention to him and what a voice!!! He was in his golden years. Maybe one of the first "hot guys" that appeared in Eurovision? Because of this performance, I have all his discography...), 2. France (You notice "Vivre" is a masterpiece after live performance! Better, all of Eurovision entries written by Guy Bonnet are wonderful -He gives me chills...), 3. Yugoslavia (it's not a favorite of mine, but, in fact, a good 80's song which kind of beat had appeal in Europe at that time, and a very catchy performance I dare to say) 4. Sweden (or Finland) = I have some doubt between these very good performances. 5. Portugal (one of my Top 5 Portuguese entries, even Armando Gama sounded a bit nervous).

I did some research on the chartinfo but luxembourg was a big hit in Belgium and France and a reasonable chartsucces in Switzerland, Netherlands and Sweden. Italy and Israel were not mentioned as charthits in Europe at all.

I agree. I don't understand why so many people like the Spanish entry these days. I still agree with the juries from 1983. But then so many people, so many tastes
