This is called chanson française done right. Used to be a standard in France. Not so rare today but not so common either. Something few people outside of France seem to notice is that she wrote the song on her own, in the tradition of the greatest French singers who were also great lyricists. No wonder that she lives the whole song it as if she was singing it from the deepest depths of her soul: she is.

For those who don't understand French : That's the story of "someonone" who cannot believe in her dreams and who needs the support of everyone around her. That can be the singer herself because she says "this black-eyed woman and her crazy dream". Maybe her crazy dream was to win Eurovision song contest ? We don't know. She just "wants to write story that hurt people in their heart and soul". And Barbara Pravi wrote the lyrics and the music. She is full of scars, she barely not exists. Sometimes, she doesn't like herself. She needs people to look at her to feel better. She just used to stand in front of people and do what she does the best : singing, be nude in front of everyone who's staring at her at this particular moment. She exists at this right moment because people make her existing. Is she better than another singer ? No. But the difference is there : she gives everything, always. She puts everything she has inside her on the floor. Well, that's the story of someone who doesn't trust herself but when she's making her thing, everything is ok. And so, what happens when the lights shut off ? Is she continuing to exist ? Her voice continues in our head, her story too. But what about her ?

Translation : Listen to me Me, the wannabe singer Talk about me, to your lovers, to your friends Tell them about this black-eyed girl and her crazy dream Me, what I want, it’s writing stories that reach you It’s all (nothing more) Voilà, voilà, voilà, voilà, this is who I am There I am even if bare naked, I am scared Yes, there I am in the noise, in silence Look at me or at least what’s left Look at me before I start hating myself What can I tell you that another girl’s lips won’t tell you It’s not much but me, everything that I have I am putting it right here (in front of everyone’s eyes) Voilà, voilà, voilà, voilà this is who I am There I am even if bare naked, it’s over This is my face, my shout(cry) There I am, too bad Voilà, voilà, voilà, voilà, right here Me, My dream, my desire How I die, how I laugh There I am in the noise and in the silence Don’t leave me, I beg you, stay longer It might not save me, no But I don’t know how to do it without you Love me, the way you love a friend who’s leaving forever I want people to love me Because I, I don’t really know how to love myself Voilà, voilà, voilà, voilà, this is who I am There I am even if bare naked, it’s over There I am in the noise and in fury too Look at me finally, and my eyes, my hands Everything that I have is right here It’s my face, it’s my shout(cry) Voilà, there I go, voilà, there I go, voilà Voilà, voilà, voilà ladadidada, ladadidada dadada, dadada, dadada, ladadadada Voilà I'm sorry in advance if this translation is not able to do justice to the real song and lyrics, I am french and my english is not the best. I just loved it so much that I wanted people to be able to experience the lyrics aswell. Edit : I wanted to thank @Mad dog for finding a better way of translating "wannabe singer ", I really appreciate it and thanks again ! Also thank you to everyone saying this is a good translation, I am not a professional yet but I appreciate it a lot ! This song is a real piece of art.

To me this was one of the highlights of Eurovision of the past decade. I love it when a participating country just says "no circus acts, we are just going to focus everything on a beautiful song". That was Portugal in 2017, and France in 2021. Conchita Wurst was that too in a way. Sure, you've got a bearded man doing a drag act, but it was so minimalistic, and everything was focused on a frankly stellar musical performance. "Rise Like A Phoenix" is also a modern Eurovision classic and certified banger, with or without the drag act.

I don't understand why the public has voted for italy... France was the winner.... I'm so so so sad but so so so proud too of Barbara. It was the only luck for France to be the winner. Now, it's ended . it was so emotional and true. It was the best French eurovision song ever, the best eurovision song, I don't think that France will have best singer than Barabra in the future. It was our unique luck to win. And now, it's over. I'm so proud that my country has been represented by Barbara but so sad too . I’m never going to watch Eurovision again.

This song was impeccable, even her breathing, and when her voice breaks here & there, all perfectly executed & flawless. This is one of the best executed live songs I have ever seen, period!
