"Sweet Dreams" was written by The Eurythmics about their previous experience at trying to make it in the music business. They had gotten screwed out of money by record companies, contracts were nullified and they had been unceremoniously dropped from labels. They were broke, living in squalor and forced to co-habitate even though they had gotten divorced. "Sweet Dreams" was the song that put them on the map and made Annie Lennox and this music video iconic.

Annie Lennox is a shapeshifter kinda like David Bowie was. Always evolving, always different, always exquisitely artistic and dramatic. She's still doing it, too. Also, Annie Lennox is one of the great vocalists EVER, not just the '80s. The woman is AMAZING and Dave Stewart is a genius as well.
@jasonlebeau12885 күн бұрын
Honestly, comparing Annie Lennox to David Bowie is probably the most apt comparison I've ever heard for her. I was just thinking, before coming to the comment section, that she's basically the female version of Bowie and how lucky I am to have lived in a time when both were alive and performing.

One of the very best acts/duo's of the 80's... period. This might be the most requested song, but it is not even their best song, it's just one of their (many great) songs. My personal favorite is probably "Here comes the rain again", or maybe "Would i lie to you" or maybe "Who's that girl", or maybe "Missionary man", or maybe... you get the idea, they got many great songs for you to discover, so... dear Aileen, go explore them, you will find they made songs for any and all situation and emotion you can think of, a true 80's gem.

You've discovered one of the most iconic British bands of the 1980s and 90s. Dave Stewart (the bloke in the glasses) is a very creative musician and writer and, as you immediately noticed, Annie Lennox has an amazing, unique personality and vocal ability. Eurythmics were massive through the 80s and into the 90s. Stewart has been associated with other successful bands and written and produced hits for dozens of other artists, while Lennox has also had a huge and varied solo career. Other Eurythmics hits worth checking out are many, but include: "There Must Be an Angel (Playing With My Heart)", "Love Is A Stranger", "Thorn In My Side", "When Tomorrow Comes", "Here Comes The Rain Again", "Would I Lie To You?", "It's Alright (Baby's Coming Back)", "Right By Your Side" and "Sex Crime (1984)" which was from a film version of the George Orwell classic novel. Lennox also had hits with "Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves" with the late Aretha Franklin, "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" with Al Green, and solo hits "Walking on Broken Glass", "Why" and "No More 'I Love You's"

Great reaction! The Eurythmics were a musical revelation when they hit the scene. Combining soul, R&B, synth-pop, and New Wave elements into this glorious mixture, with Annie's incredible vocals and Dave's brilliant musicianship. So many songs of theirs to check out, plus Annie's solo work, plus Dave's work as a writer/producer/collaborator with a bunch of other artists. My fave Eurythmics songs are "Here Comes the Rain Again" and "Would I Lie to You." Annie's solo song "No More I Love You's" is beautiful; Dave can be seen in the Tom Petty video for "Don't Come Around Here No More," a song he co-wrote with Petty.

Aileen, what a great reaction, you were pretty much spot on with the meaning of this song and the video. It's about the music industry, the cattle in it represent just that, how the music companies treat their artists like cattle. The Eurythmics were Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart, other songs by them which I recommend are: "Love Is a Stranger", "Here Comes the Rain Again", "There Must Be an Angel (Playing with My Heart)", "Who's That Girl?", "Would I Lie to You?", "Thorn in My Side". There are many more great tracks by them, but these are good ones to continue with and give a good overview of their work.

The Eurythmics were Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart from the UK. This song was huge when I was in my junior high years. I was just starting to listen to radio for music, and there was a short lived radio station. 'The Hits! And only the Hits! 24 hours a day!' Yeah, they seemed like about a dozen songs on repeat, but 'Sweet Dreams' was the only one of those worth remembering.

This song is awesome, the background voices, the music, the basic 1 or 2 lines being repeated but never really redundant. To me it a song about peeling away the onion skin of love and relationships. If you think of a sweet dream being love, when you peel back the layers, you get the some of them part. She focuses on the dark parts and leaves out the some of them want to be loyal and true. But the first time I heard it when it came out, it was such a cool vibe of a song.
