Congratulations on 100k! The big problem many owners have with EVs is not only range anxiety, but range degradation. My friend bought a 2023 Tesla Model Y long range with a range of 330miles brand new, now a year later his range is only 300miles max at 40k miles. Imagine losing so much range in just a year, and he charges at home on a slow charger at 80% max charge. The range degradation is just unacceptable and ruins the long term ownership experience. Imagine range degradation with winter climates and poor charging infrastructure like you mentioned. Just becomes more of an inconvenience than it's benefits.

There needs to be rapid improvement on electric vehicle cold weather performance for this to work at mass scale.”

Using sales as a barometer for adoption is misguided. It is the number of registered EVs out of the total registered vehicles that is barometer. For example,as of Nov 2023, 0.86% of the registered vehicles in USA are EVs according to the AFDC (Alternative Fuels Data Center) which under US DOE (Dept of Energy). That equates to 2.44M registered EV’s in the USA out of a total of 283M. According to Diffusion of Innovation, this means that the USA EV industry is still in the Innovator phase (

On the disaster this week in Chicago, Out of Spec episode at the 20 minute and 43 second mark, “The Real Story Behind Electric Cars Freezing in Chicago” quote from Kyle Conner rings true: “… the thing is your car shouldn’t limit you….I would never expect some random person who’s rented a Bolt to drive Uber for a week to understand how it works. You should be able to plug it in and use it as a normal car…. To be honest, EV’s are still weird, ..quirky… and …not easy to operate as gas in these extreme situitions.”
