Toyota sold more cars in 2023 than ever before but electric vehicles had a minimal impact on the growth. Of the 11,233,039 vehicles delivered by the Japanese conglomerate, only 104,018 were EVs. Just 0.926 percent of the cars sold by Toyota, Lexus, and the other subsidiaries last year were battery EVs. With that in mind, the company reckons there's still a need for combustion engines.

One thing I won’t be doing is swapping my R57 JCW convertible mini for an EV, everyone of the reasons you spoke about make perfect sense to me. It’s fast, loud, raw, and huge fun to drive, all the things an EV could never be😁
@organickevinlondon6 ай бұрын
I swapped my 1.6 Mini Cooper petrol, for a Mini Cooper Electric, its 8% heavier (125 kg) than my old Mini Cooper petrol, and as most of that weight is batteries in the floor its got a lower centre of gravity, ALSO its front/rear axle weight distribution, is 54% on the front and 46% on the rear, compared to 60% on the front and 40% on the rear for ICE Minis, as for its 0-60 mph, its quite a bit quicker than my old Mini Cooper, its 0-40 mph, would be not be far off, your JCW Mini, 0-40 mph, as its almost silent and looks just like a "bog standard Mini Cooper" it doesn't half surprise people when it pulls off at any lights, and yer don't need to be a professional rally driver, to get the acceleration/gear changes 100% correct, for that perfect 0-60 performance as the Mini Cooper Electric, has a single speed direct drive, (I'm an ex international HGV1 driver, used to driving a Scania 143, with its 16 speed box) just flick it into sport mode, (its got 4 driving modes, green plus, green, mid and sport I only use the mid and sport modes) and floor it, "if yer have got balls" that is as its electric, its torque, is instantaneous, and nothing like my old Mini Cooper petrol, it handles better than my old Mini Cooper petrol, heavier, lower centre of gravity, almost 50/50 front/rear axle weight distribution, no gears, both hands on the wheel, etc, as it kinda sticks to the road, instead of wanting to visit fields on sharp bends, its regen braking is awesome, I hardly ever need to use the brake pedal, because of that, it will take my Mini Cooper Electric from 70 mph to a complete stop, in under 300 meters, by simply taking my foot off the throttle, with no need to touch the brake pedal, it certainly is fun to drive, just like ALL Minis are, I usually take it for a regular spin, around my localish forest at night, "especially if the weather is terrible", it drives incredibly well on snow and ice too, I once took it for a spin around that forest, on unploughed roads, after a significant snowfall, and met the local off road 4 x 4 club, who were doing the same as me, they were a bit gobsmacked to see a Mini Cooper, handling those road conditions with some ease too. As for its "range" its manufactures stated range is 145 miles, in the winter I get a range of 120 miles, and in the summer I get a range of 170 miles, I've got a summer trip planned, to see if its possible, to get a STONKING 200 mile range out of it, charging it up, isnt much hassle either, as there is a FREE EV charging point, 500 meters from my home, so far about 95% of the almost 24,000 miles its done, have been done using FREE charging, on the occasional long trips, like London to Lands End and back that I did recently, I do use the expensive fast chargers, while on the road, which works out at about 20p per mile, (obviously the first 120 to 170 miles, are FREE, due to departing on a FREE full charge) servicing costs over 24,000 miles, £120, there is basically NOTHING to service on an EV, tyre costs over 24,000 miles, £300, one pair of new ones, recently, for the front axle only, they werent fully worn down either, but hey, I dont take chances over tyres, the rears are still looking good for at least another 24,000 miles, VED, zero until next year, brake pad and disc wear over 24,000 miles, virtually ZERO, insurance, fully comp, £720, "how do these running costs compare to your JCW Mini Cooper?", obviously the free ev charging makes a massive difference, (IF I was charging up at home, its fuel costs would be 5p per mile, 20 miles for a quid, 100 miles for a fiver, etc,).

@@organickevinlondon your doing a good job selling it to me! R56/57 JCW minis are quite marmite, I brought it for that reason, all about the driver and having fun, wife isn’t a fan…way too harsh. @@organickevinlondon just watched it, the handling and low centre of gravity point you and they make is interesting. Would like see how this feels, my mini is quite hyper active so would expect the Electric to feel calmer and maybe more exploitable. Performance wise the electric is obviously good from standstill , the JCW is quick from a standing start but you have to work at it (which I like) really gets into it’s stride above 50 when it feels properly punchy and nimble.

The MG Cyberster. Amazing EV convertible. Ships to most markets mid summer. Preliminary drives (I test drove one and have one on order). The dual motor version goes 0-100kph in 3.2 seconds. 536hp. Range of 520 km. The convertible top is sourced directly from BMW as it's the same item as on the Z4. The preorder bookings are in the thousands. Mine will join my Teska model 3 dual motor in my garage. I have 2 wall chargers one connected to a time if use meter which is 7 cents per kwh and the 2nd wall box attached to my full house solar system. The Tesla has 35,000km on the clock, is a wonderful ride and dirt cheap to operate. Charging primarily from home very convenient. 4 trips per year is easy when utilizing the appropriate Apps for charge location. By the way the Apps will inform if a charger is out of order or in use. It takes a bit of thought to successfully operate an EV. Those with a low IQ need not apply. I'll NEVER go back to a fossil fuel car. 😁

Interesting how google explained it though 🤔

Elon has been promising to have the new Roadster ready within 12 months for the last 5 years. Along with the Semi, and that ridiculous Cyber Urinal thing. And before the fanboys chime in, it's not yet in mainstream production, they can't figure out how to produce the 4680 batteries in large enough numbers, and there isn't even a factory equipped with all the necessary tooling ready yet. They've only managed to cobble together 12 badly finished examples for some of their more idiotic customers so far, and one of those have been written off.

Nightmare to deal with as it was smoking from the battery so full protection and serious worries if it was about to explode. Two fatalities and one seriously injured. Were they crushed or gassed by the toxic fumes? After seeing that damage the firemen all agreed not only would they never buy a Tesla but never take a lift in one either. Next corner it's like being stuck behind a bloody tractor.
