We need a lynch mob in Japan to hang the engineer that chose to use this freakish from hell horrible noise. Seriously. I ordered car and waited 6 months to hear this irritating bothersome noise when I drive? I'm pissed. Someone at Toyota is gonna get a serious rheeming right up the rear end. My wife’s 2019 Toyota Avalon Hybrid is as quiet as a church mouse. It was designed in Michigan and built in Kentucky in 2018. But my 2019 RAV4 Hybrid makes the high-pitched squeal you demonstrate, along with other odd sounds when slowing down to a stop. Even though both Toyotas are the same model year, the RAV4 was built in Japan in 2019, after the pedestrian warning law came into effect. I love them both, but the Avalon is BY FAR the quieter of the two.

According to the local Toyota dealer in Uruguay, the japanese carmaker chose that specific sound frequency because it was scientifically demonstrated that some waveform spectrum vibrations are capable of improving plants growth and nutrient absorption, greatly contributing to the environment. They never realized that it would've so annoying to pedestrians, as well as the driver and his/her passengers. The UFO speaker! Toyota mechanics have cars coming back all the time, "My car is broken...making this horrible sound" In my 2021 Prius, I discovered you can't just disconnect because it trips a check engine light. So I took mine out, wrapped it up like King Tutt with pipe insulation, and put it back it in. (It barely fit) A few weeks ago, I hit a deer and my car was in at the collision repair place and the mechanic calls me asking what the heck is that thing in the front all wrapped up?? My brand new 2023 hybrid corolla makes the same high pitched sound in reverse and also driving forward up to about 22mph. Driving yesterday on the highway at slow speed because of slow traffic for 2 hours was a torture because of this constant high pitched sound. Then I noticed the same loud high pitched sound after turning the engine off and taking the key out. It lasted about 5 minutes and was very loud outside coming from under the hood right around where the grille and the toyota emblem is placed in the center. It can't be the warning sound since the engine was turned off. But it was clearly the exact same high pitched horrible sound. Driving the car is painful becasue of this.The dealer said its normal. What is the reason of this? Are all toyota sedans have this problem? The 2023 hybrid toyota venza I drove today at the dealership for comparison did not make this sound. Not in reverse nor driving forward.

did you test it , as in if it's the device that makes the noise, or is it really a speaker . i wonder if you can change the sound to a custom sound, like a phone ringtone.
@DocMicrowave2 жыл бұрын
Did some tests. It appears to be a 4ohm speaker. No other electronics detected in it. Which means the signal producing the sound comes from another component. It is that component which detects the 4ohm load on the line to insure the speaker is connected. It also varies the pitch of the sound in relation to your speed under 21 mph. With the proper custom circuitry, and Arduino maybe, I am sure the sound could be changed to something else.

kpri101. Yeah, it is starting to get really annoying. Have had my Prime since mid June and it stands out like a sore thumb with sound when in EV mode. Especially in my neighborhood. Were my family has told me they always know when I am arriving home as they hear the sound a block away. I was in a multi level parking garage the other day and heard that sound from likely multiple vehicles echoing through the garage. Even though I didn't see the cars that were actually producing the sound. So yeah, I know what your saying about when more of these are on the road. I for one am seriously considering doing "toning it down" mod once the car is properly broken in. Ultimately I would love to create a custom circuit and switch that will allow me to disable the sound from inside the car at any time with out setting off any dashboard alarms. Seems the car is also very much monitored for health remotely by Toyota. Wouldn't be surprised if they would detect tampering. So I will have to come up with a stealthy way of switching it on and off. I would likely leave it off 95% of the time. Turning it back on for service and inspections.

Just rented a hybrid Pacifica, first experience ever with a hybrid, and this stupid thing is the single biggest complaint i have about the car. First thing I'd disable if i owned one.

It's a super annoying sound but it's probably for the best if you leave it alone, especially if you live in a dense urban area. I've had many people step in front of my car that couldn't hear me coming regardless

And who weren’t looking I’m sure.

It is quite annoying. Especially in a quiet neighborhood at night, or in a parking garage where that sound really echos throughout. I think it is louder than a modern gas engine in many cases. I drove a ford escape hybrid for 17 years. Never had a problem with it being 'too quiet'. You just be aware of your surroundings. Which should be the case regardless.

@@DocMicrowave I would block it with duct tape
@DocMicrowave2 жыл бұрын
@@grazz7865 I did that. A 2 inch peice of rubber cut from a pipe cap duct taped to the front of the speaker. Reduced the sound by only about 50%. My next attempt will be electrical.

@@DocMicrowave I would say foam like the air conditioner pieces of foam to surround the window then plenty of duct tape

That noise like a scary movie

Well, I am fine with THAT noise. I have a 2022 Santa Fe PHEV. The backup noise is the same as what is on a garbage truck, or a heavy duty construction vehicle! Yup, those yellow huge construction vehicles! It's terrible, and those that are taking test drives for their new cars, should ABSOLUTELY see how their cars sound in reverse! I would NOT have purchased my Hyundai, had I known of this noise! What do think my neighbors say about it at 4:45 AM? Yes, the government regulated it to be "a noise"............. Hyundai just chose a terribly LOUD one. Lastly........... just HOW MUCH does a gas vehicle make when it backs up? Pretty much no noise at all. Yes, I get the attention of all the cars when I back up in the shopping center - pedestrians too. It just needs to be about 70% lower. Is there an electrical engineer in the house?

Yeah, IF I were to buy a EV. (Which I wouldn't) I would remove the stupid thing. It's MY property.

If you want a better noise, get a Tesla, they let you choose whatever you want at least.
