I would think that you can use only one module as it should select the strongest signal and if you dont have a second module it will be a signal strength of 0 so it should select the signal from the first module

Great comparison! After a long wait and lots of rumors about the EV200Ds, they actually look quite promising. I'm with you. Correct some of the issues you and other reviewers have mentioned and maintain (or lower) the price and Eachine has a winner!

I had the HD0's and the EV200D at the same time on my head locked to the same copter and compared them. i really prefer the image of my ev200d's. Much better on my eyes. Also the light leak issue that JB was talking in the review about got fixed apparently since i didnt see that in my googles.

Quite impressed with the FXT Viper, especially since it's been on my radar for a while. Mostly because I have a very strong glasses prescription, and Fat Shark inserts would cost about as much as the FXT!

Hi JB! I want to tell you because of your statement around 6:30 mark. RHCP waves are changing direction when reflected from a surface effectively becoming LHCP. The hole benefit of CP is to not receive the reflected wave. This is why putting both polarization's in a system like you mention is a bit funny. It's not like having vertical and horizontal.

Running mixed polarization csn be a benefit if the reflected wave is stronger than the direct wave. This can happen when an obstacle is in the way and the reflected wave bounces around the obstacle. If you put bit a LH and RH antenna on your goggles, you'll see the diversity switching between them. I'm not saying it's always a good idea, but it's not a totally ridiculous idea.

Here's a thought - it can be difficult to differentiate the detail of leaves on trees from RF noise. What if you put two VTX's on a quad, one hooked up to the camera you fly with, and another with no camera so transmits a blank picture. Then capture both VTX signals and sync them up and place them side-by-side, so you can see where the craft is on one picture and the other picture ONLY shows when the signal is bad.

Honestly to me it looks like the EV200D was at least as good as any of the others when it had only 2 antennas. And with 4 it's a clear winner. I'm very surprised about that. I can't see how it's worth spending all the extra money on any of those other modules, unless it's Clearview. Reception is the most important aspect of my fpv setup to me. Hello! I bought the Viper 2 Version of the Goggle - Early on I could fly any ware it worked great! I am using the Far View patch and a RHCP antenna. All good. Lately I can't go 20 meters out and the RSSI drops to nothing.... I changed antennas Etc. No help. I really like the goggle. Have tested same quads with lesser goggles reception is Good.. Any body else having this issue?? I am reluctant to but another monitor at 78.00 to fix it. Does FTX have any US Service?? Ben Herr

If you already have EV800 then I don't think Transformer is going to give you a significantly different experience. I recommend you find somebody who has a set of goggles you can try, and fly at least four or five packs to give yourself time to get used to the different FOV and see if you like it.

It's safe to not have antennas on a receiver. Only transmitters are damaged by not having antennas. You can use only one receiver if you want to.

EV200D clear winner for me in this comparison, I have the EV800D and they have been such good value and reliable, if they sold spares for EV200D then Eachine would nail it ,as my only concern and probably many others would be about the warranty compared to Fatshark?If anything went wrong and you could order all spares and repair them yourself ,I believe they would be on to a winner.

You mentioned maybe throw a LHCP and a RHCP omni on the two different receivers. This wouldn't work to our advantage thought, if I understand circular polarization and mutlipathing correct. If you are transmitting on RH, then you want to reject LH because that is a bounce... am I right? Thanks for the review and comparison! I am considering the ev200d goggles.

This isn't the internal DVR of any of these goggles. They are being recorded with external DVR so every one is exactly the same. We can't let differences in the internal DVR affect the results. See the video description for the exact DVR I'm using.

Thanks for this comparison. I've been agonizing over many of the cheaper goggles, trying to find the compromise between cost and features, and not finding a one that was a good solution - no diversity, 32 degree FOV, or other problems. I think the EV200D is the cheapest set of well-reviewed goggles that have the features I want, and I'll be able to afford them sooner than I would a Fat Shark and receivers.

Wow Josh! That was a great review. I am literally brand new to the hobby and my opinion is hardly noteworthy. BUT I am glad to see you put the transformers in as a contender. That is what I fly with due to cost and the large fov and glad to see they hang in there. I will admit they probably came in last. BUT I believe they are probably the only ones who required an external DVR and if that had any effect. All of these feeds were recorded using the same external DVR. That's the only way to ensure consistent results. Check the video description for a link to the DVR that I used.

The Transformer- was that the v1 or v1.1 please? I think v1.1 had different software or something.... Im using Genisis which has same software as v1 but there are files to update on the RCG forums... Switch to 4;3 for quads & then 16:9 for the planes, Ive got no complaints with their performance- for what it is -when using the Pagoda & Triple Feed together & making sure Patch (primary SMA) is covering main fly zone & I can get a good 2.5/3km out @ approx' 100/150meters using 200mw & up... Ive got the Quanum/Fat Shark collabaration Genisis that was sold by Hobbyking... (Same as the box-set Doug (the) Crasher was wearing in RR Botgrinder) It's a foam clamshell style that has the same screen & electronics but with a strange grind to the magnifying lens similar to one of the FS boxes, but uniquely its own.... Bloody awesome things I reckon! Can switch from 4:3 for quads to 16:9 for my planes with a 5.5inch 720screen... :D

IMHO the ev200 looks as good as the LaForge even if it had 4 antennas to do it. They will probably be my first set of Google with 2 eye pieces. I got the Viper goggles for the price. The transformers looked like a good entry goggle but the price was just too close to some of the smaller goggles. Overall the ev200 and LaForge are the only ones that stood out at all. The rest weren't bad but about the same. I don't regret my purchase.

Genius moment right here..... Read on. There is something the EV200s have the potential to do that I think will be the future of fpv goggles. A lot of clever technology has gone into trying to displays the best image by somehow merging the fpv feed but what about each module (in the EV200s) displaying its fpv feed separately into each eye. The brain is a wonderful thing and will piece together the images itself. Of course DVR footage would not be able to capture this. You heard it here first!

(usage for freestyle) would like to test it but my rapidfire is on preorder :/ if I understood correctly, rapidfire will put the pictures on top of each other and take the better picture or am I wrong?

I'm not sure that is exactly how RapidFire works, no. But I'm not sure how RapidFire works either... nobody really is except Immersion.

At one time these modules (clearview and rapidfire) advised to use the same antenna on each module. Now they suggest like we would use in freestyle normally -- an omni on one and a directional (patch, crosshair, helical, etc) on the other. This gives you coverage behind, above and around, while the directional will give you extended range in one direction!

Seems to me that we have a winner. Not an absolute winner but hey for 300 bucks i guess the 200d are almost a no brainer. Guess you have made me buying these, not a chance I'm wasting 500$ only for some oled screens and 0 receiver.

What this sort of testing shows is that there is such little difference between any of them performance wise , it should be the least concerning factor when making a purchase decision. They all perform close enough that its essentially impossible to quantify. The little differences you may see in a particular frame, or stretch of time can hardly be chocked up to an actual difference in performance. Due to the wavelength, at about 51mm @ 5.8GHz , even minute differences in the position of the receivers is enough to create a difference in received signal due to multipathing/reflections etc. This is precisely why an anechoic chamber is required to weed out any real differences in RF performance. Real world testing really only shows you when there is a SIGNIFICANT difference in performance , which we simply do not have here. However, I would contend that the DockKing has a negative impact on what the viewer sees in the goggles. This is not to imply it has an impact on RF performance, which it shouldn't (other than minor effects which are unmeasurable objectively in this manner) Just that it is affecting the final product (what you see in the goggles) negatively for whatever reason.

TheWizard Agreed. We need nummbers here, not just videos. We need a way to show SNR/dB rating accurately at all times. maybe even a device that piggy backs on to the VTX and can analyze the wavelength and give us some numbers do we can stop guessing. Also, these different VTX's need to be flown IDENTICALLY. Only way to do truly do this is two-four or even six quads, same config, different VTX in an open field. Being controlled by one TX. All of them. There are WAY too many variables to do an accurate showdown. Interference changes from one second to the next even in the same spot. This would be the only way to accurately test mutiple VTX. They must fly the EXACT same path and simultaneously as well. Agreed my friend? What do you think?

Its such a difficult problem to get reliable data testing relatively like this. The performance of all these are so close, as they should be, testing them is essentially what I refer to as a "bullshit proposition". It just simply cant be done. It sounds good, and makes for a good attractant to get view count up, but its essentially a null result. RF in a highly variable, uncontrolled environment, especially at microwave frequencies, is essentially untestable relatively when the equipment is for all intents and purposes, identical. It would only show a wholly apparent issue that would manifest otherwise anyway and negate the need for this type of testing. Again, this is why there is highly specialized, very expensive artificial environments know as anechoic chambers. It really the only way to perform this sort of testing.

I'm not surprised Fatshark transformer performs the worst, the receiving modules they using are sucks. Although FS got toppest technology, they cannot save themselves from bad receiver modules. Obviously True-D RX modules are way better.

The Dock King's performance is disappointing...I was really expecting some improvement over the True-D but it seems to make things worse instead.
