EV4 Semi-Recumbent 3-wheeler eBike

Today we are taking a look at EV4's eBike, which is a three wheeled sei recumbent with a tilting mechanism! The 500W eBike packs a pretty substantial battery (from 900Wh up to 1200Wh), has pedal assist and it's surprisingly comfortable! It costs 2500€ excluding VAT and it is available in a 36V and a 48V configuration. Top speed is either 30 kmh or 40 kmh depending on which battery voltage you choose. This vehicle can be also locked to 25 kmh making it legal to use on bike paths or public roads, of course depending on your local laws. It's a blast to ride and surprisingly torquey as well.

This EV4 is really nice! I have eBike like a MTB. Mine has 540W and pedaling on ebike gives much more power and fun!

I've taught about building a e bike like that but for 4 seasons like go thru winter,Windjammer,heated handles heated seats and most important has to be protected from snow ice corrosion and the battery has to be isolated from cold.

I am not disabled, but very interested into the City Quad, Mountain Cart, and the Mountain Cart 4x4. What I want to have is a canopy against wind, cold and rain, and fenders for rainy days. With a good canopy it possibly would be a competitor to the "Renault TWIZY"! Maybe the possibility to pedaling too! Oh, and maybe 45Km/h max speed. With the 10% tolerance in Germany for max speed you will be allowed to reach 49,5Km/h. Not sure about the STVZO in Germany, but maybe it gets a registration as a S-Pedelec!?!? Or a registration as a "eKleinstfahrzeug"?!?! As a S-Pedelec you even would be allowed to use "spikes"! Not sure if a eKleinstfahrzeug is allowed to use spikes!? I like thes kind of mini e-carts! Thank you for bringing EV4 up to my attention!!! Any other recommendations for similar vehicles? UPDATE: Just discovered the concept-car "EV4 Go-kart" on theire website! NIIIIIIce!!!

Hi! I saw that you have brilliant videos about eucs.🖐🏻 But i miss a video about cleaning. I have a v10f and i don't really know how should i clean the cavity between the wheel and the cover. Should I remove the cover somehow? I don't want to use hight pressure water because of the electronics. It's annoying because all the little rocks are scratch the wheel and it has such a horrible sound. And the mud... you know. I would be greatful because i havent found a video like this yet.😉👍🏻

Hey Adam, great video! Please do more trike reviews! Do you think the tilting feature can be a deal-breaker for people who are not cycling a lot and/or not confident cycling in the cities? For example would someone like mother be able to get used to it in a matter of few hours, given she is not a confident cyclist, or would she just completely gave up on the idea of having a tilting trike?

@Mahdi - it depends on how they tune the tilting mech - a self-centering springiness with variable tension makes it pretty easy to get used to this configuration. In my opinion, the Tilting Tadpole Trike with a semi-recumbent rider is the best compromise, since it can be both narrow, and tall, and stable too. For us rural types, a shell is needed to reduce aero drag, or the range will be disappointing. The EV4 shows promise, but I am getting "Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead" from their link, so it may be that they are in difficulties.

Love the idea of this trike, not sure I love the result on this one. Why'd they move the battery to the rear rack, the worst place to put a heavier ebattery? Yes that steering mast is too long! I wonder if it's adjustable? Do they have plans to bring these to N America? There's no way I would spend this kind of money without trying one out. They offer no prices for this or the accessories on their website, just a PDF form to fill out, which you return and (I guess) THEN get the price for the options you pick? Seems quite the ass-backward way to do it...

Wow, almost 30K subscribers for an EUC channel. Pretty great! That bike looks heavy. And big. In the US, those are mostly ridden by bearded, 40-something engineering / gadget nerds. Adam is about 15 years too young to fit the profile.

I have a cycle genius which is a two wheeled recumbent with basically the same geometry as that bike . I stripped it down and put BMX stunt rims on it turning into a single speed and mounted a 33cc four stroke engine on it. I’m going to go make a video of it right now and it will be my first on my channel I was given today,,..check it out!!

Over engineered. Too Heavy. Power to Weight Ratio is the Most Important Feature. So you can pedal it home, if it runs out of juice or suffers electrical failure.

Our country's almost rural roads are tiresome and hateful if there is no suspension for wheels and that too should be properly designed ergonomically. I DISLIKED the video since you didn't show the details of steering mechanisms. We want to how strong its design and stability. If it's that strong to withstand the odds in our roads, then we might order it. These trikes are best to avoid musculoskeletal problems while cycling compared to ordinary bicycles.
