It never ceases to amaze me how Eva could take any song and effortlessly make it her own. Such a tragic loss of life and talent. She changed the world for the better then left it far too soon. I can't help feeling a little twinge of sadness whenever I listen to her music. It's such a shame she never lived to enjoy the success and recognition her golden voice so deserved. There will never be another Eva Cassidy. She was truly unique.

She was discovered in London.Unfortunately she passed away stricken with melanoma(skin cancer). I was in North Dakota in 2001,a primary care physician alone so ebbed down when I heard her sing Fields of Gold.I searched for her story, accumulated all her cds I could get enough. Somehow Eva transcended everything .She makes every cells in my body jumped for joy and yet I feel like Eva is still with us. what a treasure to the world. Thanks Eva.

I wonder if people like Eva come forth for a short while just to raise the bar a little higher, yet without drawing too much attention to themselves and becoming too hard of an act to follow. For me, all her versions of these classics outshine the originals, and tend to be the standard I judge all other versions by. No doubt she could have done a dynamite arrangement of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida if she had felt inspired, yet oddly she is not a song writer, but one of the best vocalists ever.

I just recently listened to Adam Levine covering Prince's Purple rain and Usher covering Marvin's What's Going On. In both cases, as much as I respected and loved Adam and Usher, their efforts in these attempts didn't even come close to the originals, imo. I felt these were two perfect examples of two iconic songs that, regardless of the immense talent of the artists trying to cover them, simply could not be satisfactorily covered by ANYONE. They were songs that were utterly Prince and Marvin. Period.I believe that Eva's rendition here is one of those very, very rare instances where a cover outshines the original version of a truly iconic song. In fact, in not only outshines it, it blows completely away. I really can't think of another cover- of an iconic song- that's even in this league. Absolutely beautiful. I believed every word...
