I'm into a lot of different genres and artists so I rarely pick favorites but Eva Cassidy tests that every time I hear this song. There are a lot of phenomenal female voices out there but none that I've ever heard even come close to her level of perfection on every level. She's doing things in this song that are next to impossible and doing it with absolute ease. From a whisper to full belt her voice is silky smooth, not even the slightest sign of strain throughout her entire amazing vocal range. Her pitch is always perfect, but warm and full of passion instead of a sterile technical perfect. Even her normal speaking voice was strikingly melodious. I always hold this song up as the "perfect 10" of female vocals. It's also one of Pete Seger's most moving songs getting right to the Heart of our Humanity :)

Eventually, most all who listen to Eva will come to realize, Eva Cassidy is the Holy Grail of Vocalists/Musicians. Had she been discovered early, as many artist are, she and her band members would have been almost as famous as Paul, John, George and Ringo, but as we now know, it was not to be. (But thanks to social media, she's getting more famous every day!!!) By the way, that's Chris Biondo (recording engineer) on the Bass guitar; Lenny Williams is almost always on the piano; but this time it's Hilton Felton on organ; Raice McCleod on the drums (he starts this song with the brushes); and Keith Grimes, (although on this one, I can't hear him) plays lead guitar. They all should receive some type of special, Grammy accolades for being a phenomenal band and for helping develop the confidence and stage presence of the greatest singer in the world. Note: Eva arranged Pete Seeger's folk version of this song to a more Gospel sound. She loved Gospel music and creating choir background vocals!
