Not really, many people know they're going to or have already lost everything. Taking the opportunity to take valuables that you can sell later after all you've lost, especially when insurance companies refuse to pay out, can be quite sensible to me. This is what people always miss about looting. It's usually not just an opportunity to get a free PS5, many times it's just a desperate move to make sure you can afford a motel for the next few days/weeks until you can figure things out.

Australia had winds like this on Ash Wednesday in 1983. Even when 1 kilometre fire breaks were dozed...the wind just blew the fire across the break. Same thing happened in 2009 with Kinglake. When winds are 80 miles an hour or more...NOTHING will stop it. It turns into a fire storm. It was the wind that caused Australia to burn in 2019/2020 as well. This is happening in America's winter as well. Like Australia...everything gears up for 'BUSHFIRE SEASON'....this is not their bushfire season. Tankers can't fly to drop retardant or water in winds like that.This is beyond heartbreaking.

@Watermelon_Man9213 күн бұрын
It's like a race against time. They have to set the proper obstacles in place before the fire destroys whatever is in its way. A common house fire you can simply eliminate with water. But these wildfires don't go away that easily, so they have to use other tactics like blowing holes into the ground to prevent the spread. It's a difficult situation.

What kind of evacuation program does the county have for people who cannot get out on their own? They should have hundreds of volunteers who are willing to help the elderly & disabled. I agree they ought to be busing people out of Los Angeles like they do the homeless. Airlines ought to be encouraging people to leave via lower prices, that way people could flee to family or friends in other states. The rich ought to be the most penalised forcing them to leave Los Angeles to take pressure off the social services. People like Rachel and Harry for example ought to refused entry altogether as they are just virtue signalling and not of true service to the community or society.

I have fought wild fires. When the wind gets involved with a fire nothing can stop it. The fire will make a run so fast you can't catch it. And it is so hot that water evaporates before it hits the fire. The one thing that works for us. We use bulldozers and built dirt barricades. I know it's very hard to do that when you're in popularity areas. And everybody is right on top of each other house to house. Plus the fire was jumping because of the wind and the hot coals going everywhere. This catastrophic events is very suspicious. If there was no storms in the areas. No lightning strikes or anything like that occurred before the fire started. Which that's what starts most of the fires in the West that and campfires. If none of those occurred there's only one solution to how it started.

The one and only time I’ve visited California was in May 1977. I drove from St Paul MN and stayed at the Best Western in Sacramento, the Motel 6 in Monterey and continued down the Pacific Coast Highway to San Diego where I took I-8 to Yuma AZ. California was beautiful back then but too crowded these days. Also I’ve wondered why anyone would live in a fire-prone area when there’s many other beautiful neighborhoods with virtually no fire risk. I’ve been trying to find the best way to help those who've lost their homes, especially the ones who can’t afford another place to live.

LOS ANGELES FIRE The devastating fire of Los Angeles should be an eye opener to town planners and authorities running the cities and towns everywhere. It appears the disaster is partly a natural calamity and partly due to human failures. It's time appropriate actions are taken to avoid such disasters in future. Some measures could be: Have fire buffer zones around each house or each housing colony. Install fire detection cameras and automatic (AI/IoT driven) fire extinguishing facilities. Space the houses/ housing blocks so that fire doesn't spread. Remove every fire-vulnerable tree around the houses. Periodically clear all dry vegetation including dry grass. Have wind barriers around house/ housing units/ towns and cities. Avoid building houses with wood, if possible. Avoid having forest-like vegetation around houses/ housing units. Avoid tall growing grasses Do research on fire-proof building materials. If possible, make fire-proof wood with appropriate treatment. Remove all vegetation around cities and towns that are potentially dangerous. Replace them with shrubs and short vegetation On global scale, promote all efforts to mitigate/contain climate change and global warming. More funds may be allocated by the States for measures aimed at protecting communities from such fire hazards. I think a lot needs to be done to avoid such disasters. My heart goes out to all those dead and suffering people of LA.

@Redd71 Well yeah, the fire crews with the trucks have to stop. But again, that type of equipment MUST be inspected regularly and doesn't take nearly the amount of time you are implying. We are talking less than an hour here. And it prevents catastrophic equipment failure during the fire fighting missions.
