Recently found your channel and have become a huge fan. Even as a Dane I didn't know about this event in Copenhagen haha. I also heard that Evan studied in a Chinese university? Was wondering if you guys made any video on that subject and whether you would recommend any cities/universities to study Mandarin in for a year? I'm born in Denmark but do have Chinese heritage 😊

Thanks for following us and very happy that you enjoyed the videos 😀Evan studied in Guangzhou city Zhong Shan University, I would recommend Shanghai, Guangzhou, if you like the city with delicious food would be acceptable for anyone and good weather and international atmosphere, especially Shanghai with lots of expats :) Suzhou is also very nice 😊 I am assuming as Dane from Nordic country you might like south better than North?

Hey John, Evan here, thanks so much for your lovely comment:) my studies in China weren't focused on the Chinese language though I did take a beginner Chinese class for fun while there but it was very much just on an introductory level. We have a video from several years ago. Must be one of the first few handfuls of videos we released (back when I still had short hair😅) where we talk a about my exchange stay in Guangzhou. I chose it mainly due to the great weather, great food culture and amazing nature in the area but I'm sure lots of places offer great Chinese language programmes. Depending on your starting level I'd highly recommend playing around with some Chinese learning apps on your own before going to get some of the basics down:)

@@EvanandBingBing Thanks a lot for the reply. I'll try and reply to the both of you in this comment btw but I'll definitely try and find the video you were talking about. I did study Chinese in the Danish gymnasium as well so my peak level should be around HSK 3. With a bit of studying I think I can catch up to HSK 3 again and hopefully have a level of around HSK 4 before I arrive in China. As for which cities to study in I've mainly been thinking about going to some medium sized cities. Something like Suzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Xiamen, Qingdao etc. Since my purpose is just language learning I was worried Beijing, Shanghai and maybe even other T1 cities would be too big for me and possibly make it too easy to speak English? I haven't really thought about south/north too much but I'd say most cities I've looked at are mostly eastern and for the most part more southern than northern. With exceptions in the west being Chengdu and Kunming. My first pick university is actually Xiamen university in Fujian since my parents hometown is in Fujian but the application process with them has been insanely troublesome. The application deadline for most universities I've looked at is 30. June so if things don't work out in China I'd try Taiwan as a backup option although I'd rather learn simplified.

@@John9tv we wish you the best of luck with your application wherever you choose to go:) with a level of HSK3-4 you should be totally set to go wherever I'd say. The times I've been in China nowhere has been "easy" in terms of relying on English rather than Chinese but of course the larger cities will likely have a higher average level:) I assume you've visited China before? One thing is the language but the culture is likely a bigger shock to most people:) make sure you try the local delicacies and please do keep us updated on how it's going when you go!
