Beautifully written, arranged and delivered. This song has taken on a life of its own. Over 20 years it has become such a huuuuuuuge song that means so much to so many people and more are discovering it all the time, even now when its over 20 years old.. It will resonate with us all at some point. It is a once in a lifetime song. You only ever write a song like this once in your career.

And it still looks modern. Someone from 2004 would not look out of place in 2024. But just 20 years earlier, someone from 1984 would totally look out of place in 2004.

@@davidward9737 I hear people say this, but I don't think that's the story behind it. Especially since it wasn't Amy that wrote the song. And if it were about her sister, why would Amy be the one not touching the ground, and why would it be a guy that's focused on aside from her? "Lee considered it Moody's song as he wrote the lyrics. She contributed "a little bit" to the lyrics, but does not connect with the song as it does not have personal meaning to her."

If you really pay attention to the video, you will notice that even though Amy is singing the lyrics, her character is not the "speaker" of the words within the story. It's actually the guy character that has suffered the loss. Amy's character is the one being spoken about; she is the one haunting him. She never touches the ground, and no one interacts with her. She is a ghost/angel!

I've always thought of this song as an emotional breakdown, set to music. The opening section is the buildup, all the issues buildingbup. The electric guitar and drums kicking in are the dam breaking, and the emotions finally overwhelming you. The final bit, going back to the piano, is where the crying ends, and the healing starts.
