Sony ZV-E10 Vlog Test | 4K Footage

This is the type of video I wanted to see when doing research, so hope it helps! Here’s a few thoughts I’ve had since I finished the video: For the price you pay it’s a great camera, perfect for B-roll and tripod shots. I truly think Sony should have pitched this as a studio camera instead of a vlogging camera but it does the trick. If you’re looking to shoot a lot of walking shots and don’t care too much about cinematics maybe look at a GoPro instead. Either way I’m glad I sold my other DSLR and got this for vlogging, it will be a learning curve for me but I’ll definitely be able to achieve some high quality adventure content with this. I just bought this camera, and it has not arrived yet. I want low light capabilities, and point and shoot all auto settings. So your target aim of this video was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks. Great job. About catalyst browse, I assumed I could come home, download my 25 clips from this day's shooting, and run batch mode on all of them in one session while I cook and eat dinner. Then 1 hour later or so, I could begin editing. Am I wrong? Do I have to insert each video clip one at a time, let it run, and then insert another clip into catalyst browse?

I really needed this video. Honestly, I thought that my zv-e10 was broken due to the shaky footage I got. I agree that it should not have been marketed as a vlog camera. I appreciated this review a lot one of the few people that went over how this camera would perform in a vlog while addressing this cameras biggest flaw (being stabilization or extra time added in workflow because of catalyst browse). I already have a full frame Panasonic camera but looking at trying out other brands like canon and sony and seeing how I like their systems. The zv e10 is on my list as well as canon m50 and canon r7. So this was nice to see an honest review.

I kind of impulsively bought the Sony zv e10 over the canon m50 a couple months ago due to the 6k up-cycled quality and completely ignored the shitty stabilization when initially buying. Let’s just say I don’t regret my decision but it’s def annoying with the shaky ass footage and figuring out how to use either catalyst browse or davinci. Catalyst browse was nice and worked for me once but without changing any settings and then boom the next clip I tried said it didn’t have the meta data available despite me being on the same setting that it worked for the previous clip. So then I just went into davinci and uploaded the files to there and was able to stablize

@@Vlogversity Well it definitely was a good choice haha the E10 is way better then the M50 in my opinion. Sucks you can’t get catalyst working, I use it daily and absolutely love the results! At least you got things working in DaVinci though.

I started second guessing myself and thought maybe I didn’t do enough research and spent my 1k for the wrong camera but I remember why I was initially sold on the Sony due to the crisp video quality and great low light filming. Catalyst was weird. It seemed like it was working fine and I changed my setting on my camera to allow catalyst to work with the Meta data and it did work for one clip. I then took another clip without changing anything and it won’t go thru on catalyst. I will say catalyst gave me better quality after stabilizing but davinci was nice since catalyst is picky about what it will stabilize for you

@@Vlogversity It’s a GREAT camera, check out some of my more recent videos to see what it can achieve! Finally have things fully dialled in. What’s your stabilization settings set to? You have to have it *Turned Off* to utilize catalyst also shoot in 1/250 to get the most stable footage possible 🫡

Nice! Watched some of your old stuff and the ZV-E10 def is a level up. I too have this camera and it's definitely super underrated. It gets a lot of hate undeservedly. Sure it isn't perfect but it gets a lot right.

@@EvanLindy Same. Well, I bought the Weebill for my A6500 but never used it. Ending up giving that camera to my brother but the ZV-E10 records gyro data so the gimbal never got used. If you were ever interested in a Zhiyun Weebill on the cheap you know the guy to call haha.

Dope. You have done the universe a service. I actually shoot on an FX3 all the time, and while I like that vibe, sometimes it's just not feasible or safe to whip out five figures of camera and gimbal and mic and lens. I've been looking at picking up a ZV for funsies. This is the most honest collection of footage have seen to date. The mic is the best test too.

I can guarantee you will never notice it unless your doing really fast movements… I’m assuming you’ll be doing a lot of tripod shots since it’s a live stream? The only time I’ve ever noticed the rolling shutter was when pointing my camera out the car window while driving fast.

I have this camera and I agree with everything you said. The stability is the issue here, I have an old like 15 years old Sony camera for videos and the stability is much better than with this one. However, I love how good the colors are and how crisp the picture is. Also, it is really light and tiny, so I really enjoy working with it.

Because even though I've had this camera for half a year, I just started using Catalyst Browse yesterday and it didn't work (I had to find out that apparently Nvidia Geforce is not enough for it, so I had to switch to Intel Iris xe graphics in the program).

I assume it would be better because the camera records the gyro data to utilize catalyst browse to its full potential. I highly doubt DaVinci will have access to the gyro data.

It’s all preference and what style of vlogs your shooting. I personally like the ZV-E10 more then the GoPro because the dynamic range there more you can do with it. If your just walking and talking then yes I agree the GoPro is better.

Thank you! If you don’t use catalyst browse or a gimbal unfortunately it’s not great. I’d say to check out some of my more recent video to get a feel how it can look. That was my first time using the camera. Wide angle might work nice if your shooting with active cropped stabilization.

I appreciate that! My best piece of advice is to get out and use the camera nonstop so you can see what works and how to achieve the best shots through trial and error. I colour grade and edit my footage in Final Cut Pro! Everything is filmed, edited and uploaded in 4K. If you have any specific questions let me know 🫡

Definitely, I think it’s perfect for all kinds of vlogging. Only thing I would say is if you’re doing a lot of walking shots maybe invest in a gimbal. To start I’d say just shoot in intelligent auto and let the camera do it’s thing, then adjust accordingly. But if your planning to use catalyst browse I’d suggest shooting in shutter priority and with a shutter speed of 250 (for outdoor shooting).

Great review! Curious if your vlog’s are all filmed on your own (with occasional drone support), or whether you have a helper? e.g. Shots of you walking were shot by someone else, or did you have to manually position the camera each time and walk away to get the shot etc. Keep up the great work!

Hi. A pretty basic (maybe stupid) question. How do you manage to record yourself walking? Do you just put a tripod and leave the camera at a adequate distance for every one of those walking shots? Because that sounds like a lot of work for each 2-3 seconds shots. Thanks for the video itself. It's one of the best of the ZV-E10 I've seen. Kudos to your edition skills too!

Hey! Great review! So if I get this right, it's a good video vlog camera as long as you are not running around? Also: people told me the battery was only 20 minutes till empty. You said 3.5h. Did you constantly film? Or was it just ready and you actually filmed just 20 minutes? Thanks from Germany!

Thanks! It’s a great all round vlog camera and I think the best vlog camera for that price point. I wasn’t filming for 3.5 hours straight but my batteries last a lot longer then 20 minutes.

@@EvanLindy thanks! That was what I thought. It is a good compromise for vlogging and shooting. Fun fact. Somebody told me you could plug a powerbank on the battery to let it charge while filming. Don't know if that works. I really wanna buy it but the stabilization of the movement looks like a disaster. And spending 700€ or $ to have something that looks like 75% of a good product is too much. Any advice? What would you else consider for vlogging? Any other brands being competitive to the zve10?

That sigma 23 and that Sony 11 have definitely caught my eye! I also do a lot of filming outside and value the power of zoom of a lens like the 18 to 105. It was really nice to see the Kit lens in action in outdoor settings. Thanks again! Great video.

@@EvanLindy will do! You’re right about the lack of accessibility in the zve1. Too expensive, but yeah, that 16-35 ff looks sweet! Didn’t want to invest in a gimbal? Been using the zhiyun crane m3 and the product is smooth and no catalyst. 👊🤣 You obviously have your reasons tho!
