attacking god? maybe, maybe not. isn't it human nature to question things? the first story everyone learns about is adam & eve, and the whole point of that story is how it's natural to be curious. when the moral of that story is, 'do what you're told, block those feelings, or you will face dire consequences,' how can one be blamed for questioning it even further. you have to use your mind in order to keep it running.. it's just how we're wired. furthermore, it would seem the songwriter does in fact feel some type of way about this. and, thats pretty common. i can only speak for where i'm from, but most people grow up learning about a religion in some capacity. it works for some folks.. and it doesn't for others. but both sides of that fence were curious at some point, and quite a few of both sides struggled with that issue at some point.

It seems to me like some of it might be related to how some Christians are extreme hypocrites and put down other people just because of how they appear - "you wear your necklace like you wear your noose" referring to a cross necklace on a hypocrite and "you call me evil cuz I'm not like you". Other than that, not sure.
