Very nice explanation, thank you, but can't you achieve the same goal of different temperatures with a thermostat and a solenoid valve?
@AirConAcademy Жыл бұрын
interesting? but where is your solenoid valve? if it is before the metering device then no it would not work if you install it after the evaporator then it will be opening and the temperature of the evaporator will instantly drop to the saturation temperature of the low side pressure. what will happen you will have wide temperature swings which will not be good for the product in the cold room/refrigeration room. Your theory seems like it could work BUT the temperature swings would not be good. Thank you for your question!!! and thank you for watching!!!

i dont get it, is this EPR valve able to regulate the pressure manually, also in the evap unit is it all these different temperatures in the coils ....or different fridge boxes ? one system
@AirConAcademy2 жыл бұрын
The EPR valve will regulate the pressure in that one evaporator. If the systems has two evaporators, and they are needed at different temperatures than the one with the highest temperature will need the EPR valve. If you had a system with three evaporators, and they all need to be a different temperatures, the two evaporators with a higher temperatures would have an APR valve. That would be set to different pressures so that the pressure would equal the temperature desired in the evaporator. The other evaporator would not have one and it would be controlled by the pressure of the compressor. I hope this answers your question. And thank you for watching!

Do we still need the EPR if we are using variable speed compressor / digital compressor for multi ecaporator with different evaporating temp?
@AirConAcademy2 жыл бұрын
The EPR valve is going to maintain different temperatures in the evaporators. So yes you would still need an EPR valve even if you have a variable speed compressor. This way you can maintain different evaporators at different temperatures. Good luck and thank you for your question!

@AirConAcademy3 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, that is a very complicated answer. You have to know the size of the equipment or the room, and then what is going to be kept in there and head what temperature? He will also have to know what the heat transfer rate would be of the installation so you can make sure you can keep that area cool. I'm sorry but there is no easy answer to that question. Thanks for the clear explanation! I'm trying to understand something. Would I still need an EPR if I don't have multiple evaporators? Or if I have split suction lines (multiple compressors)? I'm unable to distinguish the function of a metering device and an EPR in that case.
@AirConAcademy3 жыл бұрын
If the metering device is going to drop the pressure as the refrigerant goes into the evaporator. The EPR valve evaporator pressure regulating valve is going to maintain the evaporator at a specific pressure, so you can have several evaporators at different temperatures. What that means is that if you have multiple save operators you can have evaporators at different temperatures. If the system is designed correctly you would not need an EPR valve on the evaporator because it will be designed to maintain that pressure so we can have that specific temperature. I hope this explains your question. If not please let me know. Thank you for watching!

Thanks, does it matter what kind of condenser air cooled or water cooled we have to decide about our subcool and also would it make a difference that we have very low or medium temp walking freezer to decide about our superheat
@AirConAcademy4 жыл бұрын
No, it should not make a difference if it is air cold or water cold. The superheat will be the superheat that is required. What I mean is that if it is above freezing or below freezing the superheat will work the same. I just do not know what your temperatures are and what your superheat need it is. I have never worked on very low temperature freezers but it should all work the same. Thank you for watching I hope this helps.

Sir, your videos is knowledgeable, but I want to know that EPR evaporator pressure regular is going to close the area of EPR so that the gas is going to flow less and pressure is going to increase in evaporator coil that is all the idea but to buy EPR what details we have to check, if we want both same temperatures in two different box, so still we have to use EPR ( why because one box is going to reach the set temperature before then another.) Plz reply
@AirConAcademy2 жыл бұрын
I am n ot sure I understand? It sounds like you are trying to add something onto an existing system? One of the main things you need to concentrate on, is if the compressor/unit can handle you adding another coil or box to it. It also sounds like you're trying to keep another box the same temperature. If that is the case, you can just adjust the EPR valve so they maintain basically the same temperature in each box. If you do need want the two to be at the same temperature you really do not need an APR valve. You only use that when you have two boxes from the same unit but different temperatures. I hope this makes sense. I tried to explain the best that I could what I thought you were asking. Good luck!

How would you find the compressor inlet pressure if you already have the temperatures and pressures for 3 different boxes? Would you average out the temperatures and the find the corresponding pressure to that temperature?
@AirConAcademy4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for writing!!! you should be able to get the actual suction pressure at the compressor. Look at the compressor inlet and there should be a port for you to get the suction pressure. You should have a semi-hermetic compressor so there should be a service valve that you may need to close a bit (Crack) so you can get the actual pressure. I hope this helped.
@patrickflynn30364 жыл бұрын
@@AirConAcademy This is actually for a Refrigeration Class and this is just like a project question so there isn't any physical components. I was given the all 3 box temperatures and it was stated that the compressor inlet had a superheat of 25 degrees Fahrenheit. I was able to figure out all of the pressures inside each box but I am confused if each box's refrigerant comes out of each EPR a different pressure and into the same compressor. Thanks for responding.
@AirConAcademy4 жыл бұрын
@@patrickflynn3036 oh. I understand. It is for school. Averaging the pressures would not work because those are the pressures inside of the evaporator’s. I believe you said you had three evaporators? Do all evaporators have EPR valves? Because if one does not that would be your compressor suction pressure.
@patrickflynn30364 жыл бұрын
@@AirConAcademy Okay I understand. We basically have to design our own system and our professor did not give us much details about it so I will make only 2 of the evaporators have EPRs. Another question, would you rather have the evaporator with the highest pressure or the lowest pressure not have an EPR?.. since that would be the compressor suction pressure. Thank you.
@AirConAcademy4 жыл бұрын
@@patrickflynn3036 It would have to be the evaporator with the lowest pressure. That way the two EPR valve that you have, or are going to have will be able to raise the pressure in the evaporator and release him into the suction as needed. So it would be the one with the lowest temperature/pressure. Good luck with your project!

I’m actually trouble shooting an EPR valve at the moment in a coffin case supermarket. Air flow is good, fan is running but it’s pushing warm air. I’ve never trouble shot a EPR valve, any tips? I’m confident system is low on charge due to sight glass flashing but I would like to hear any advice. Thank you for the cool vids!
@AirConAcademy4 жыл бұрын
My suggestion would be to try to clear the sight glass to attempt to get the charge close to what it should be, but this may not do it. Most of the time to make sure the charge is correct, the refrigerant is recovered, a vacuum is pulled and the unit is charged by weight! This way you know for sure the charge is correct and then you can properly trouble shoot the unit. If the charge is NOT correct you will not be able to trouble shoot the unit properly. It may be more work but it can save you time in the long run. I hope this helps.

Great and informative video, I am really happy to come across your channel and get refreshed on some of the things I train on...question, there is a port there, what pressure should be at that port? In you example at 4:11 the port is on the coil side, what is the pressure that should be there? Is it evap pressure? Second question, in this case we would have a solenoid at each box? I don’t deal w/ low temp or refrigeration but this is a cool refresher.
@AirConAcademy4 жыл бұрын
I am so glad you like my channel!!! the pressure before the valve is going to be 68PSIG and after the valve it will be 32PSIG. there is no need to have a solenoid valve because the pressure inside the evaporator will be maintained as needed by the EPR valves. IF you had a solenoid it would be before the TXV/Metering Device to isolate the evaporator. but not really needed in this application. Thank you for your question!!!

One time I turned my paperwork in to the teacher and it was all written backwards, of course she did not appreciate that and got mad at me. Like I said school was boring but when I went into the Navy I found the material interesting and up to this day I cannot get enough learning of how things work. How do you adjust an epr valve
@AirConAcademy2 жыл бұрын
That is a little tricky. You need to make sure that you know what the temperature is that you want and what the pressure for the temperature needs to be. You need to check with the PT chart and adjust the EPR valve for that pressure so you can maintain the desired temperature. It is a little tricky to do as long as you take your time check your pressure and temperatures you should be able to do it. Good luck!

What are some issues an epr valve may have .
@AirConAcademy4 жыл бұрын
Mostly is not enough airflow!!! sometimes the filter if it is an AIrconditioning unit will stop the flow. Other times it could be the fan is not operating correctly. If the metering device is over or under feeding refrigerant to the evaporator it could be misdiagnosed as an evaporator problem.
@mividaloca79754 жыл бұрын
@@AirConAcademy how would you troubleshoot these issues
@AirConAcademy4 жыл бұрын
@@mividaloca7975 if it is an AC unit then you would look at the filter, look at dampers through out the building, measure the airflow and figure out if it is enough according to the size of the unit . if it is a refrigerator you would just look at the fan to see if it is working. the metering device you would check to see what the super heat is. I cannot just give you a simple fix. it takes a lot of troubleshooting of the unit.
