Just finished watching all the episodes on this build. Nice solutions to keep it inexpensive. Regarding the wiring, how did you integrate the controller etc to sustain functionality of the car?. Any tapping in on CAN-bus to modules like ABS, ASC or Transmission controller?

Nothing wrong with the Irish accent. You don't expect them to pronounce it Turd, they shouldn't expect you to pronounce it third.

I just watched this again and still can't believe you built this for under 1000 Euro, although you did cheat a bit by using stuff you already had but even with that it is a cheap EV. Please do the Q&A as promised.

Very cool project I am hoping to do that conversion some day. What is this app that you are using to monitor battery percentage acceleration, temperatures and other stuff?
Really fun video! Looking forward to the final tally on parts and money spent on this. A silly question: was pondering doing a classic pickup as an EV project and was wondering how the original three speed transmission would work with an electric with the broader gear to rpm ratio. Any experience with this?

Same here. I assume he just has an experience to rev-match. In different build by another channel saw a dude putting light on a dashboard when it's time to shift, here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3y1aYKoa66gbNk
@TheAndyRoberts4 жыл бұрын
Your do rev match but because you don’t have a heavy flywheel or firing cylinders turning the driveshaft, as soon as you level out the throttle you can just click it into the gear you want.

Do you need to shift the gears or you just like to? Original leaf runs just fine on one gear I think.

Maybe the BMW is a lot heavier? I'd be very curious to see wome economy measurements (and speeds/acceleration) in the different gears.
@HandyDan5 жыл бұрын
EV don't need to change gears since the only reason a transmission was invented is because gas engines have a tiny torque window and the transmission keeps the rpms around that. But an EV would be cool if it had a two speed, one lower gear for towing or acceleration one higher gear for top speed racing.
@pigknickers29755 жыл бұрын
@@HandyDan So it would start off in 5th gear no problem at all?
@HandyDan5 жыл бұрын
@@pigknickers2975 Not necessarily, most EV's have between 7:1 to 9:1 fixed gear ratios. So you need a ratio to start with. I think a good choice for EV two speed is 12:1 for towing and accelerating and 7:1 for daily use or highway speeds

Wondering the same myself. Who insures you and is the road tax the lowest level.
@KevinSharpe5 жыл бұрын
Most European countries allow you to reregister the vehicle as electric if you meet the legal requirements of that country. This is easy in the UK, difficult in The Netherlands, and impossible in Norway. Insurance for electric car conversions does not seem to be a problem at this time.
