Theory : he just swam into the ocean one day, but a wave just kept him in. he drowned, but someone rescued him. he had so much water in his lungs that he went into a coma. the thing of "infinite water" is just a metaphor of water in his lungs. he needs to fight the "cheaters" which is actually unconsciousness and stuff. when he defeats them, he is free from the coma.

Here's my theory; the second cheater held his lava bucket as he snuck back to the chest when evbo walked away. He snatched the water bucket he had stored in there and ran to the obsidian. He made the cobblestone generator the right way.
