wait, why not drill the holes, then paint the underside (visible) side of the of the board black and then insert and glue the lights?! Seems to me that would infinitely easier with a better result. Great job, just asking- maybe I'm missing something obvious.

My only two regrets is that the lights hang down with a stem. I wish they were pulled back into the ceiling so that they were only dots, not this hanging string of light. Also wish that he could have somehow made different size stars to help with illusion of depth in the sky.

I know it's a late answer, but still: the different size stars have a different diameter optic fiber. The reason these strings are still so long, is because of the paintjob that's coming. He'll paint over the fibers (so no light comes through anymore), then cut them a bit shorter again. Then only the end of the optic fiber will show light and you won't see the strings hanging (but they're still there, which helps with the 3d effect!).

Sweet dude. You did a kick-ass job son. Each remote control can be programmed to work with all three panels. Unless you intend to use different colors or functions for each panel. But if you want all three panels to work identically, program the remote. Cheers dude.

inspired 😊 how many fiber optic strands would you suggest for a bathroom say 3m square. ive seen a pack with 250 strands but wonder if that will be too many to use in a small room? I also want to put in a false ceiling with led strip around the edge to reflect off the original ceiling. ty

At what stage in the install do you paint the panels if you painted them? Trying to plan a project like this using plasterboard but not sure on how to paint with the strands poking out. Spraying is an option I don't like. I thought maybe rolling would work if the fibres only stick out a little and then trimming them afterwards.

I'm trying to figure out why he didn't roll/spray BEFORE making the holes. Makes little sense to me. That's what I will do, alternatively see if I can stretch velvet across it and poke the fibers through (still drilling holes in board obviously)

Yes you could, but keep in mind that you need some space above the panels to guide the fibers. At the same time you want to keep the panels from sagging, so you might want to find a solution for that.

How many fibres are you using in total? I'm doing a home cinema project with 300 fibres in a 20ft long hall.. Bit concerned it won't be enough stars after all the hard work!

The panels are now painted in a matte black finish: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIGwZ4Zri8djncU The fibers will be cut flush with the ceiling once the paint has fully dried. I'll post another video of the process and the end result once it's done.

No special software. It's just a JPG image of the sky which I displayed on the projector.
