If they want to do that in the game, I guess more power to them. However, Stellar/Coronal Mass Ejections are naturally occurring events that don't lead up to supernovas. Our sun does that all the time and the worse CME we've seen temporarily damaged the power grids.

The theory that pops to my mind is that November 2nd some sort of radiation event will happen here and the nomads remaining on the planet will become a new powerful npc faction a la drifters or something like that for creating new PvE content.

This is part of the problem when considering declining EVE numbers. Amongst other things, PVE no matter how pretty, is not what attracts most players. It is PvP drama. CCP should pay less attention and resources to PvE, and more on PvP mechanics, nulldrama etc.
