Thanks for the video. Please don't ever become 'a slick presenter' !...there's enough of them already. We need more honest videos from honest normal people like you and I.

Afternoon from the Midlands… Thanks for the honest review of the charger & install facilitated by Arnold Clark/Bumblebee. I brought a Tesla from them just over a week ago; taking advantage of the £499 deal, and had the charger delivered today. I’m still waiting on the installer due next Monday, so hopefully all is well with the unit I have. Keep us updated on your progress with evec and I hope everything falls into place!

I'm sure that you've got nothing to worry about. The installers have told me that they've never experienced an issue with them before. I think I was just unlucky. let me know how it goes. Good luck with the Tesla. I was in two minds. They had a couple of Model 3s around the 25k mark and I swithered but went with the Niro in the end as I couldn't justify the extra 6k as most of my running is local. I might make a long distance trip once a year or so. I have to admit to feeling a little envy though.

We are really sorry to hear about the experience you had getting a repair sorted. It's clear that the time it took for the charger to be sorted out was way off mark from our usual standards. Your feedback is really important to us, and we have shared it with our service partners and are already making improvements to ensure this doesn't happen in the future.

Thank you for commenting. I agree that the 6 weeks it took to sort it out was really unacceptable. I think that as it did not work from the get go on the day of installation, even the engineer could not get it to work, a replacement unit should have been installed. However, now that it is working, I'm really happy with it.

Funnily enough I came looking for EVEC feedback after having my Podpoint Solo 3 fail repeatedly for 9 months; seemingly EVEC have many of the same woes and the hunt for a reliable EV charger is still on! What a pain in the backside it has been so far. On a side note, please don’t consider the BP Pulse chargers, my dad has completely lost the will to deal with them after it’s gone pop again after being replaced last month. And my condolences on the loss of your wife. I lost mine last year at the age of 35 from cancer, so I feel for you. Take care.

Thanks for your comment and my condolences on the tragic loss of your wife at such a young age. Since the replacement unit has been installed all has been fine, touch wood. It is just a pity that it took so long to sort it out. When the first installation engineer couldn't get the unit to work, I contacted them and said that they should send a replacement but no they were determined to try to repair it. Maybe they thought that was the most environmentally friendly thing to do but they ended up having to replace anyway and had the added cost of six different engineer visits.

@@NiroPensioner Thank you for the kind words, I try to take comfort in that we had 15 years of happiness together, and that pulls me through. Re the charger, that is similar to dad’s experience with BP Pulse, they kept repairing despite continuous problems and finally replaced. Every time I’ve had to have Podpoint out to my charger, they just replaced rather than try to repair; but the latest Solo 3 has some common issues that keep reoccurring so I imagine they are trying to replace units that have these problems. I’ve somewhat settled on a EVEC or Zappi to replace the current charger when it’s time. Time will tell if that is the right call. We shall see.

Different experience for myself, same deal as yourself from Arnold Clarke ..and bumblebee… the cost .. the installalers .. and the evec charger have all been excellent… Having tried to get BG and Octopus to install they couldn’t be bothered as it required the cable running around the perimeter of the house … Bumblebee and their subcontractor installers were willing to commit

That's great. I am really happy with mine now that it works. I have to say that they were good about mine too. I live in a single story cottage and suggested that they run the cable through the attic and drop it down the wall rather than round the outside and they were happy to do it.

Hi, mine never worked from the start. When I contacted them, I suggested they replace it but they wanted to try to repair it first. I guess environmentally that was a good shout but it took several attempts and six weeks before in the end it did get replaced. Now it works just fine.

Is the fitted charger cheaper than a standard plug for electricity?

The charger is not any cheaper but it is quicker and, with the tariff that I have from my electricity supplier, I can charge the car from 30% to 80% within the four hours of cheap rate electricity. I wouldn't be able to do that from the standard plug.

Given the woes of the charger install, and I'm assuming here that the Niro can manage charging session timing itself, have you found that charging from the granny cable gives you enough off peak energy to keep you going, or are you having to supplement with additional, daytime rate energy? Guess you're getting something like 8-10kWh overnight (around 30 miles range) added at each session.

How many amps do you run through that 3 pin charger ? I would like to do the same but am reading that you really need to dial it down to no more than 6 amps to be safer with your house wiring....and even then I'm not sure you can be totally sure it's safe...our house is quite old ? And at 6amps that would be about 4 miles charge per hour. Hope you know different ...as I'd like to use a 3 pin.

Thanks for your video. I have gone through Arnold Clark and have a call next week with Bumblebee. How are you getting on with your charger now? Did you get tethered or untethered? Sorry for the loss of your wife

Hi, yes, the charger is working fine now. I think I was maybe too soft on them. I suggested at the start that they should just exchange it for a new one but they wanted to try to repair it. It took six weeks and six engineer visits before they eventually replaced it but now I'm happy with it. I have another video on how I set it up to work with the Octopus Go tariff which you should be able to find if you look at my channel if its of any use to you. I got the untethered because we also had a Nissan in the family that has the chademo type connector but, to be honest, I think they are being fazed out and pretty much everything is going to have CCS so, if your vehicle has CCS, tethered saves the hassle of plugging and unplugging the cable if you are going anywhere that you might need to charge. Because I do mostly short journeys, I just leave the cable plugged in as I don't need to charge away from home. I guess there's always a risk of theft but, where I live it's unlikely.
