Yes. In 1995 MP Patterson told the IMF ta ta. You can go back as far as 1972 when Michael Manley took power, the JLP & private sector ripped out the productive base of the country so that GDP growth which was at 18.01% bouyed by an IMF loan, plummetted to -5.49% in 1973 during Manley's first year of his 2 terms. Despite every effort including several applications to the IMF for structural support which they refused, the PNP was never able to record positive growth for a single year hitting an all time low of -6.69% in election year 1976. The IMF finally approved a loan for Jamaica in 1978 which was near enough to the next election and it was clear that the PNP would not remain in government. Election year 1980; GDP was -5.71% then the JLP returned to power and the economy miraculously returned to positive growth in 1981 recording 2.64%. It's obvious that the Manley administration was sabotaged. The financial meltdown which began in 1993 was also an attempt at economic sabotage as it followed on the heels of the biggest growth in the economy for 20 years which was a whopping 9.42% up from 1.96% in 1992. THAT WAS THE LAST TIME THE JAMAICAN ECONOMY EXPERIENCED GROWTH ABOVE 5% IN ANY FISCAL YEAR UNTIL 2022!!! The country would be in a worse financial situation even today if Omar Davies accepted the IMF advise to let the financial institutions crash & did not put in FINSAC to resolve the issues.
