This 47ft Azimut had left MarineMax Sarasota earlier this morning heading to MarineMax St Pete when 3 of his 4 engines quit working. The dispatch said he wanted to go back to Sarasota, but I know from past experience, this would’ve been a terrrible idea as a boat this size barely fits through the entrance into that marina, and under tow would’ve been very sketchy. I asked the customer where he would prefer to go, and he said St Pete, so that’s where we decided to go. However, when getting the boat rigged up for the tow, I made a simple, yet critical mistake that I don’t think I’ve ever made before.

In this video, I share the story of a challenging tow involving a stunning 47ft Azimut yacht that encountered serious engine trouble. The day began with the vessel leaving MarineMax Sarasota early in the morning, bound for MarineMax St. Pete. However, things quickly took a turn when 3 of the boat’s 4 engines suddenly failed.
The initial plan was to return to Sarasota, but with a boat of this size, navigating the narrow and challenging entrance to that marina-especially under tow-would have been risky at best and disastrous at worst. Based on my experience, I knew this wasn’t the best option, so I consulted with the customer. After discussing the situation, we decided to proceed toward St. Pete, a more manageable destination for this kind of operation.
But things didn’t go entirely as planned. While setting up the tow, I made a simple yet critical mistake-something I don’t think I’ve ever done before. It’s a humbling reminder that even seasoned professionals can make errors in high-pressure situations.
In this video, you’ll see how we worked through the complications, completed the tow, and ensured the safety of everyone involved. I’ll also share the valuable lessons learned from this experience and provide tips for anyone who might find themselves in similar situations on the water.
Whether you’re a boating enthusiast, a fan of marine adventures, or simply curious about what it takes to tow a large vessel safely, this video offers a firsthand look at the challenges and rewards of marine towing.
