I’m a woman that’s been playing Souls games for a decade and it annoys me when people who really don’t actually care make statements about how sexist it is. I feel way more comfortable playing Souls games than tons of other games out there. These games feel safe to me and I have absolutely no issue with any of the female characters.

ordinarily thats the case, but they designed the enemies around you having summons. thats why theres so little down time between combos, theres meant to be someone else doing damage while they swing at you. it means if you choose not to use them because you didnt buy a AAA game to watch ai fight, you have an actively worse experience because the system exists

Enjoy the story, explore the lands around you, just have fun in your own way. While playing, it will become natural, that true gamer instinct of trying to find new challenges and learning new ways. For those stubborn gamers that want to force anyone on " how the game has to be played " my response is: " With keyboard and mouse ( or a controller ) and a open and focused mindset that doesn't block you from having fun".

The early God of War games certainly weren't Shakespeare but they have more depth than they are given credit for. Half the reason why Kratos is such a great character in 2018 and Ragnarok because of all his mistakes, trials and tribulations of the past saga. He's pondering and trying to make up for it with his love and growth of his son Atreus. He was always an emotionally deep character, just wasn't always presented in the best way.
@jimmysmith904

I always loved the subtle depth kratos had in the originals. He portrayed humans in their most raw form of anger but also had things that could pull him from that mindset for a few moments. Very very subtle bits of showing the person he really is beneath all the anger and vengeance. I thought it fit him as a character extremely well in the old games.

dude had fucking depression, attempting suicide multiple times, every single thing he did was out of regret for killing his family. And I have bad news for someone who would be upset with Kratos being black homosexual - Wouldn't matter. Spartans did, in fact, were gay as fuck. And Kratos before wearing his family ashes - which is why he is so white- was darker skinned than your usual caucasian, white man. I usually agree with Zac but here he fucked up big time, in my opinion. Yes, there are better characters than Kratos, but come on.

@@miki97xde That made me think of something. When they eventually make the God of War live action show, how is that gonna work?? Let's say hypothetically they get Christopher Judge to play him, which would be great but for story reason they're absolutely gonna have to lather him in white powder cause if they don't, you're not respecting Kratos as a Character. Then it becomes a race issue online on both sides. One saying that making him white is racist and degrades Christopher Judge's skin tone while the other is saying since Christopher Judge is taking a role from a fully competent Greek actor and etc. That's just saying if he or another black man gets the job. Like which crowd do you piss off?? Lmao. I can see it now and I'm already exhausted.

Imagine saying Kratos, the guy that starts out by attempting to end his own life so that his suffering and endless torment would finally cease, the guy that accidentally slaughtered his own family and has their ashes glued to his skin, the guy that in the first game in a nightmare sequence you protect your family from deformed versions of himself and heals them by hugging his wife and kid and it ends with Ares taking the blades and murdering them regardless as he cries "No not again" , the guy that went to Elysium to see his daughter but had to abandon her again or else the world would end. Are we really talking about the guy that saw his mother die and went to save his brother from Thanatos and it ends with his brother dying aswell and him contemplating what he's become as the grave digger replies "Death" and he then was gonna cast himself again but stopped. Are we talking about the same guy that after finding pandora he didnt want to sacrifice her cause she reminded him of his daughter? The same guy that after killing Zeus the last of the pantheon he turned his blade against himself and tried to again kill himself to finally be rid of his memories. Kratos is by no definition at all the good guy, but to say he had no depth and is one dimensional is absolutely insane.

The one people often ignore about old GoW (which I find absolutely retarded), is that it's *based on greek tragedies* . They will go on about him needing character redemption or whatever when that was *never* the point. His life was meant to be miserable and not have a happy ending. Regardless of whether or not that's to each individual's taste is irrelevant, since not everything is made to appeal to everyone, but since sony wanted more money, they decided to go the more encompassing route with the sequels to gather a bigger audience (which mind you, is not necessarily a bad thing from strictly a storytelling POV, but does betray the intent of the original games). What I find the most sad about this is when the director for the OG games commented his distaste for sonys decision, which is completely understandable, EVERYBODY shitted him. I'm not gonna pretty the guy has the best takes in videogames ever (Metroid Dread), but I *think* the guy has a certain level of property when talking about *his own games* .

I hate when people say that Young Kratos was boring character, the amount of things his story teaches us is just crazy... There's a nice comment I found about God of War and it literally describes how I feel about this series: - I think one of the key things people miss in regards to god of war is in fact... Kratos's story arch(encompassed across all GOW titles).. His story is told over the course of 7 brilliant games.. There is no vindication without suffering, there is no love without turmoil, there is no success without failure. there is no god-hood without first dancing with the devil. The reason Kratos is as lovable now as he is, is due to every game before God of Wars reboot. The angry, malicious, vindictive and cruel Kratos that we knew was changing in those games as well. These titles are not individual stories. They all encompass Kratos's story. Kratos's Dynamic character building began in god of war(the original) and every single game that has come and passed, has built his legend and our understanding of him. We grew/grow with Kratos as he grows because most of us can see his worst traits inside of us. I am 26 year old, I played the first god of war as a child, I now understand failure, pain, hurt, betrayal and most importantly BLIND ANGER... The lessons, the heartbreak and the growth this series emulates is a sheer stroke of brilliance. Any "decent" man should play this series, and take a REAL note from the story line of Kratos. Change before it is to late. In pursuit of redemption, revenge, destruction or pain.... you will always lose. Kratos in his reboot state... is simply teaching us.. it is not to late. We can choose to be better then what we have been or to forever remain in state of suffering. The path of righteousness is a path often walked lonesome. The path of wisdom may not be as exhilarating, but it certainly will maintain your safety and your sanity. You would not have Kratos from 2018 God of war without Kratos from 2005 God of war.

If the original GoW games were ENTIRELY about the story and narrative of the games then it would not have the following that it does and probably wouldn't even have the sequels we have now. They were and are great games but let's not beat around the bush here. They are very simplistic games that most people played for the fun of it. Because who the fuck doesn't like ripping out the eyeballs of Cyclops's and rip someone's head off to have a glorified flashlight lmao. The story is there but it's not at the forefront. While it's the absolute opposite for the newer games. The originals will always exceed in gameplay. But newer games are just absolute incredible storytelling and narrative.

'The community reacts harshly towards female characters' maybe in FromSoft games as a lot of the female bosses are among the hardest in the given title. Lady Maria (Bloodborne), Sister Friede (Dark Souls 3), and Malenia (Elden Ring) are all human (or close to) sized enemies that hit like a truck and have such aggressive styles that generally force you to change play styles and epic scores accompanying them that they are also among the most memorable and, for me, favorite bosses in the series.

This is basically the only game I play now. I'm 21 and I'm working on my career in music. But anytime I have free time, I like playing a little Elden Ring. It's such a rewarding game. I don't understand how anyone could hate this game. Yes it gets difficult at times. But the beauty of this game has always been the feeling you get once you take the time to learn a bosses moveset and dominate them. If you really think about it. You don't really need buffs. You can use them. They are useful. But when you roll or when you jump, you have frames of invincibility. Everyone knows this but I don't think they think about it enough and capitalize on it. You can choose to be invincible at any given moment (granted for only a few frames). Once you start thinking about it like that. It suddenly becomes a little easier to dodge attacks. Because you're no longer thinking of them as attacks. You're thinking of them as windows to punish your enemy. Your attitude goes from "Oh no. Not this attack. Please don't kill me." To "C'mon you bastard. I fuckin DARE your ass to swing at me. Lemme show you who's really trapped in this room." You just have to be patient and have confidence in yourself. And I think this game does well to enforce that.

Kratos has glimpses of what remains of his Humanity in the pre 2018 games. Heck, in the first game, the circle button was used for executions the whole game except for that one instance where, in the Battle at the Center of the Mind, you use it to hug his family. To protect them from berserker versions of himself. That's a perfect marrying of story and gameplay mechanics and that was from 2005! The "new" Kratos has this now in reverse. His Humanity is now in full display, and you see glimpses of the anger that drove him in the earlier installments. What was once a raging storm is now calm, peaceful day where the winds can suddenly shift in bursts whenever the situation demands it. Less out and out hatred and wrath, more like Tranquil Fury.

for anyone who doesnt know, kratos seems one dimensional from the outside but if you play the games you realize how much tragedy and sorrow is hidden behind his anger. he constantly shows hopelessness, rage and sorrow throughout the games. to claim he is one dimensional is to miss the forest for the trees. example: at the end of chains of olympus, atlas says to kratos "the olympians will betray you, you will never have what you want. can you really trust the promises of a god?" to which kratos replies "its all that i have atlas, its all i have." this is just one example from several moments in each game.

The first God of War opens up with Kratos trying to kill himself because killing Ares brings him no peace from his regrets. And one of the end showdowns is Kratos in a nightmare realm where he has to defend his family from them along with using the action button to sacrifice his health so they recover. The animation for sacrificing his health.. is Kratos hugging him while under attack. The second God of War even after obtaining godhood it does nothing to ease his suffering, all he feels is emptiness as he sits on his throne. When he reunites with his brother Deimos is he lets his brother kick the shit out of him because he feels guilt for abandoning him, even if he thought he was dead. He feels genuine happiness when Deimos forgives him and fights by his side and has family to connect with once again. This game ends with Kratos somberly carrying Deimos's body to his grave and him contemplating suicide once again. The original God of War's were about Kratos losing the little bit of humanity he had until all that was left was a rabid monster full of anger and self loathing.

Okay Asmon sorry but Kratos isn't a one dimensional character in the first games. He may have an inclination to making one dimensional decisions but he is undoubtedly a character with depth. Your probably asking what depth? Remember Kratos at a young age was torn away from his family to go through spartan training. He had to deal with this and the best way he could cope with this was by being really close with his brother Deimos. Deimos was then taken from him who he swore to protect, this lead to a great character change in Kratos. With Deimos whom he thought was as good as dead Kratos took on a war path. This could be perceived as him being one dimensional but what else is he supposed to do. Kratos is also a good Husband, unlike most of the type of anger driven and ambitious tyrants most become. Kratos has never been shown to put his hands on his women or child. Its the little details and paying proper attention that will show you that Kratos is a character full of depth and complication. ( I would have just commented with just watch the video of the God of war games for the Greek Pantheon. But then you may have dismissed me and treat me like all the other idiots who disagree without any properly written out reason.)

Gotta remember that one of the main reasons Kratos was angry was the death of his family. So it does make sense that now that he has another one, he softened up and had some character growth
@zoom4897
@zoom4897 Жыл бұрын
Also the reason he became so fixated on the destruction of Olympus. Because the gods were responsible for the death of his family, making him lose himself in this path of destruction. I don't see how that's bad or boring writing, especially when the gods were corrupted and kept mocking him and his dead family. Most people that have played the early god of war games loved it not just for the game, but for understanding the character. Asmon doesn't acknowledge this.

Kratos is an amazing character. Old kratos literally suffers from everything. He lost his family, he lost his brother, his mother, his home, he was the embodiment of rage in old schools of god of war. New kratos has now finally found peace and has now a second chance. He has his son Atreus. His wife Faye. He has made friends,mimir freya,brok and sindri. He has now a second chance in life and finally is free from his past. Even better he is now the embodiment of justice and peace rather then the god of war.❤ the franchise is a masterpiece. I hope his helps.

In terms of 1 dimensional characters, I think it really depends on the game whether a character needs to be more than 1 dimension. Yes having the character be interesting probably always makes the game's story better but if the game's quality is replaced for fleshing out a character where the whole point of the game is their gameplay then I would say that adding personality downgrades the game but in terms of God of War, did the gameplay suffer because of the fleshing out of Kratos? I don't really know. In terms of female characters I gotta say, I enjoy playing as a female character but if an IP, whether game or movie replaces an existing character who has been established as the main character of that series with (Insert minority here) I find it to be kinda cringe in most cases. Such as ghostbusters 2016 where we just have a gender swap for no reason and the movie shitting on the original cast... also for no reason) And when the creator is like "Ghostbusters is funnier with women" I think it kinda feels like someone is basically pissing on me. I don't know whether people are just saying female characters are woke for no reason, if you are, you are indeed stupid (But I don't feel like I've seen this) but I do think that there have been games that unnecessarily put females as the main character for no other reason than specifically to be woke. I think a good example of this is Baldur's Gate DragonSpire where the dialogue almost felt like it was shitting on men and the story of baldur's gate at least at the beginning, I didn't play past it and then when WotC decided to just ban everyone who criticized it from their forums, it felt like a woke agenda to me. When movies and games create these rather flawless female main characters, it feels like the woke agenda because they want female empowerment rather than making a decent main character in their story. 14:00 Proof asmongold is a sexist and has big dick energy. Shame. I would never shame someone for using summons.

if you're using rivers of blood you're generally hitting the boss as it hits your summon which by that point in the game is the mimic tear, or else casting some crazy spell that takes WAY more health away. I beat Malenia in 2-3 tries using the dragon's breath rot spell, which my mimic also cast on her while she was focused on me :P. It was amazing!! And yeah - also just use a damn good shield instead of rolling everywhere all the time :P.

Kratos from the first god of war wasn't one demontional. The Kratos from god of war 3 absolutely was. I don't really think it's unreasonable to think of Kratos as being super flat as a character since the only real depth he had was from the first game. What was originally organized as a Greek tragedy had to be retooled into a Trilogy of bigger, flashier, and angrier spectacles.

@asmon, at 3:20 you described the exact reason why people liked old Kratos. It's a little lopsided to say one character is bad because they're one dimensional, while another character is actually good because of that same reason. I don't want talk for other people but the reason I and maybe some people prefer the old god of war games compared to the new ones is not because of the "feelings" but because we've already seen the ragnarok game before because every single "mainstream" game nowadays plays the same, feels the same, just with different textures, they all come from the same formula(incidentally we are seeing a rise of indie games becoming popular partly due to them breaking the monotony in the mainstream gaming industry, but that's a tangent...) while the old god of war games felt like they had more personality compared to other series, now this could be because when I was younger I wouldn't have access to all of the games that would come out because i had less money, and watching people playing games wasn't a thing, but I think my main point is still valid.

Female characters in souls games are incredibly dynamic though. Like some of them are your beacons of safety, like firekeepers, the emerald herald, the painter, Priscilla (until you swing at her) Gwendolyn, the maiden in black, etc. Some are literal deities, like the witch of izalith, Gwendolyn, her supposed daughter in dark souls 3, the moon prescence and Kos, literal eldritch gods are usually referred to as female. and some are the some of the hardest bosses in the game designed to give you the fight of your life, like Sister Friede, Malenia, Lady Maria, etc. But all of them have tragic stories and backstories because they're dark souls games. Dark souls has some of the most diverse female characters of all time and I hate articles like this that are just causing trouble where there is none.

What makes the rant about the Scarlet and Violet so funny is that even the "bad reviews" just complained about the bugs and glitches,but that argument becomes irrelevant seeing how they were patched out later as the game still gets updates. In fact,most of my friends played Scarlet and Violet and we all would try to send each other the most cursed images of these bugs and glitches we could find.
