And here is a beautiful rare old classic “EVENING IN GAY MAHARASHTRA’ sung by ELIZABETH D’SOUZA and harmonies sung by myself CHARLES VAZ .
This rare song Evening in Gay Maharashtra in the mid - 1960’s was a favourite on All India Radio’s pop music programmes. The chirpy tune extols the delights of the great state on India’s west coast: the hill stations of Matheran and Mahabaleshwar, Chowpatty beach in Mumbai, the romantic ladies. It assures listeners, “You’ll like your stay in gay Maharashtra.”. And this song now deserves further recognition as ELIZABETH D’SOUZA has nailed the same once again with her singing style.
The original version of this song is sung by PARVEEN VACHHA and lyrics by NAJU KAVA and music by MINA KAVA
ELIZABETH D’SOUZA popularly know as LIZZ hails from Aldona, Bardez, Goa and grew up in the 50's and 60's avidly listening to the most inspiring vocal Portuguese music composed by Portuguese musicians of that time.
Listening to Portuguese music in the earlier years had an enormous lasting impact on her. Although she has never sung professionally, over the years she has always enjoyed singing Portuguese and other Latin American popular songs.
Liz was employed by Crompton Greaves Ltd in Mumbai for 35 years and retired in 2008 as Executive Assistant to the CFO. Post retirement she owns and has been successfully running Evolve Cosmetic Clinic specializing in Hair Transplant procedures in Panjim Goa, in partnership with a Board Certified Cosmetic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and is operating as its Marketing Director for Goa.
