Diane was correct to question Spencer's motives. She was also correct in saying by doing this it will change all his relationships. Truthfully it would make more sense for Laura to get custody at this point if it's going to be another family member, because Spencer is doing this out of spite.

Can’t wait to see Nikolas’s face when he gets served with custody papers. Spencer’s right Nikolas will never change, he doesn’t know how to be a good unselfish father. He will break that baby’s heart just like he broke Spencer’s over and over again. Do I think Spencer is old enough for the responsibility of a child, no. But he’s had to grow up fast and that’s because of Nikolas. Spencer wants to keep him from all the pain he endured because of Nikolas and I’m all for that

Spencer hadn't slept with Esme for months by the time Nik and Esme slept together. 3 weeks before, Spencer and Esme almost fell into bed but Spencer stopped it. She told him "It's been so long since we've been together" and Spencer told her that it was because he wants the moment to be right for them to "reconnect" after all of the turmoil their relationship had recently been through. It should be noted that this was in Esme's room just after she caught Spencer snooping through her letters from the nanny. So, in actuality, it had nothing to do with reconnecting at all. He just knew that Esme was trying to use sex to manipulate him into being distracted from the letters and stopped it. Three weeks later, Nikolas and Esme had sex.

She's made drastic parenting choices herself that severely impacted her children's lives. It's the nature of soaps. Few can claim to be a good parents on that show.
