I definitely agree with you based off my trail cams from last year. My theory is the bucks eat all night and tend to bed down by late early morning before first light. Then they sleep all day and wake up late afternoon to get on the move, especially where I’m at in coastal NC where were still have 85 degree days

Yea, that temperature plays a big role in buck movement. Them colder temps make them eat more frequently and also move in daylight hours. Either way they still gotta eat but have less of a choice when in tougher conditions. Good points, I feel like they do a lot at night/morning/evening as well when it's super hot during the day.

I've shot a lot of bucks, I'd have to say it's 50/50 on morning or evening. I think alot of things control the movement of bucks. Like you said weather is a major thing but I think it's also moon phase and the area you hunt 🤔 I hunt the top of a huge hill that's wide and long. I usually don't see bucks coming back up to bed until 8:30 or so in the morning but when I hunt river bottom I see bucks all day. Here in Oklahoma it's still really warm in October so not much movement from mature bucks but around Halloween and cool fronts I start seeing mature bucks sneaking around in the morning and maybe before dark but it's still warm. From Halloween thru Thanksgiving you can see a buck anytime of the day and I actually see a bunch of bucks in the middle of the day. I guess the best time to hunt is as often as you can... lol. Good luck this season 👍

Thanks for sharing all of that. All of this is very interesting on how things are different but also the same. I love to hunt ridges I have caught a couple big ones cruising both the top and bottom. We can also have some warm Octobers depending. Usually when we hit halloween the morning temps really drop. Evenings can still get warm. I agree in that rut time period they can move whenever. I also agree to be out there as much as you can! Ive tried and heard of people having success midday I will have to try that more. Good luck to you as well!

@Outdoord I've shot big bucks at sunrise, midday and sunset... lol I really like hunting late December and early January when it freezing and below. The deer are really active and I have shot bucks January 13th and 15th, last day of season. Both were following yearling does looking for love ❤️. So I don't think there's really a perfect time to hunt because you just never know when those crazy deer will move. I shot one of my biggest at 3 pm on a 68 degree day with high humidity. I was sweating just sitting there. The day before I watched 4 different bucks chasing does around in a small bottom. I knew I couldn't go in and hang a stand so I didn't even go in until 11 and sat on the ground in the middle of some cedar trees. At 2pm I could see legs on the Ridge above me and hear trees being rubbed. It took an hour for that buck to SLOWLY start working to the bottom. He stood on the edge for 20 minutes and slowly came down into the creek bottom. As he cleared some small trees I drew and he saw me and turned towards as I released the arrow. I was like crap ! He didn't go 25 yards . So you just never know when or where a buck will show up. All you can do is be out there sweating or freezing. Nice video.

@@SuperDave-pe1zw Me and my brother took a big old 8 pointer mid December. Im pretty sure he was doing the same his right eye was basically gone from fighting. I feel like that was fate that day. For all that to happen. That was around 3:45 pm. That's the biggest that I have taken. Ive also seen a huge 8 around 9:30am during the same time period. I am learning to be more aggressive than worrying about messing my spots up. Last rut we had super high temps and I seen multiple bucks and even got a shot at one around 70 degrees. It's awesome the anticipation of the older bucks and how cautious they are. You were probably nice and calm by the time the hour went by lol. That's an awesome story I could talk about this stuff all day long lol. Thanks!

@Outdoord right on man, hunt anytime you can in a spot where the wind is right, you just never know what you'll see.

I hunt in Arkansas and we have the same problem in October. Unless there’s a cold front the October lull is real

Most people thst aren't morning people and hate getting up hours before the roosters crow are the ones who say evenings are better than mornings and hunt way more evenings than they've hunted mornings so therefore they have no true comparison and so they make themselves believe evening is better than mornings and I can say after 30+ years in deer woods this comparison is situational and depends on where you are hunting and how the deer move etc. I've seen more bucks in the mornings than I've seen in the evenings and most all bucks on my wall came from mornings ! I think that morning hunts produce mature bucks more so than evening ...

I think I am one of those people lmao. You have some very good points. Thanks for sharing your experience. I also agree about the buck movement being situational based on the specific property and time of year. My old man loved the mornings. After years on the property I hunt I have seen mature bucks move both mornings and evenings. The evenings however have produced some more opportunities and I have been more successful. I am also challenging myself to hunt more mornings especially during those first cold fronts and the rut.

Man to me it seems it depends on the property. Where my dad took me on his buddy’s property it was almost exclusively a morning spot. But where my grandad used to take me was better in the evening. My family’s homestead is good in both so idk it seems it’s property to property to me

Very good point and I agree each specific hunting property is different.
