Their concerts are incredible, but for the sheer occasion and drama, nothing will ever top Jean Michel Jarre's Destination Docklands back in 1988. I was there and it was other worldly especially as it was in the 80's. Nothing even close to had been before it.

I’m currently in my “rediscovering my love for the Chem Bros” phase, which means going down the rabbit hole and learning as much about them as I can. I’m only 4 minutes into the video and my mind has been blown several times! The visuals and lighting combination is actually insane! I’ve never seen them live before, but I can’t wait for the day that I do, I know I’ll be in for a treat 🫶🏽

You certainly notice the the 3d effects of the lights at the show. Whats telling is that they still use some of the old visuals from their early tracks which show just how much the current stuff has progressed. One question though, how do they synch the visuals precisely with the music?
@JeremiahTrue4 жыл бұрын
They say in the video that the visuals controller is prepared for some several thousands of combos of songs. I would assume that the day of show they provide a setlist, setup Abelton or whatever DAW they're sequencing everything with and then follow the set. I saw them at the Greek in LA and their setlist was almost identical to the other shows I watched on YT. The might vary some things but, by and large, it was pretty consistent. When I saw them in the 90s, before all of the syncro visuals, they were a lot looser and did more live remixes since they were using more hardware sequencers and the MPC to drive the shows.
@hiddentechno82664 жыл бұрын
@@JeremiahTrue it definitely has to be sequenced one way or another so that the tracks with vocals or the times when the lights flash to particular notes happen perfectly. It's done so well I think many people take it for granted that it just happens.
@EventElevator4 жыл бұрын
@@JeremiahTrue The Band is using MIDI from a session in Logic and from that the crew is using a SMPTE sync signal. But the fluent transitions between songs are very tricky - as there is no pause or any rest in between two different clock signals. When the TimeCode jumps from one clock to an other they have sometimes just so many things running at the same time. This whole sync process is a very fine mechanism and requires to super tidy-up everything and to be really straight in terms of programming.

With sound and visuals like that show I probably wouldn't mind if the music came from an OG iPod. Besides, you can't tell if EDM artists are really playing anything live (obviously they aren't playing all of it live) so obsessing about where the sound comes from is beside the point.

I was there this year in the Festhalle Frankfurt. Visually nice, but I was very disappointed by the sound. Too loud, very uneven, no punch, no definition. I've experienced The Chemical Brothers many years ago at an open air festival (Sonne Mond Sterne) and there they sounded excellent. The venue in Frankfurt is surely not easy to handle, but in such a case pushing up volume IMHO is not the best idea... Two days later I saw Björk in Luxemburg (Rockhal) - also with d&b KSL. THIS was amazing!

@@patrickbeart7091 From personal experience. It isn't music that can be recreated live, especially with only one or two people. They have no choice but to pretend to be doing something on stage. A massive video and light show helps keep the audience entertained and distracted.

@@MS.312 So I see you know nothing about this show. I was lucky enough to be backstage on these shows and honestly you dont even know, look up their midi setup, it's all perfectly orchestrated and every show is different soundwise.

Saw them play an "industry night" party at the end of summer in Myrtle Beach, SC. It sucked. Probably had more to do with the crowd... And it was a super downsized setup. But, regardless, it still sucked.
