I owned the Volante and now own the H90 and I can say they are both great at what they do, so it is purely subjective.

It would be cool to hear how the Vintage Digital Delay on H90 compares to the Strymon DIG in ADM mode and both pedals in stereo to compare how wide each one sounds. The DIG has a very wide stereo spread on it's own.
@ftlaud911 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the demo. Don't own either so not bias either way. To my ears the Volante sounded better. It is impossible to tell though since they have different settings. Would take a ton of time to try and match each one to the other to tell what sound you like better. Both great pedals either way.

H90 for the win. The effects are so lush and liquid sounding. Amazing

Everything, including the dry tone sounds more rounded through the eventide. It's like the textrure of the core tone was smoothed over. I've noticed this in some of eventide's own demos too.

I tested a couple comparable settings between an H9 and my Plethora X5, and found the H9 sounded notably better. I thought, "oh man is the Plethora tone-sucking?" It was not - that shit was incredibly transparent to my ears - the H9 was doing some eq/comp on, at least, the signal going into the effect, if not the whole dry tone, when active. I was both impressed and annoyed. It's obviously fine if you have an effect always on, and it's fine if that tone boost coincides with something like a soaring lead section, but it was weird. I still have the Pleth, and now have an H90.

To me the Eventide sounds more "synthlike" which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But as far as a tape echo goes the Strymon seems more "authentic". The Eventide is not very good at distortion.
@Station2Station-du2gh Жыл бұрын
completely agree. H90 is totally glossy. I prefer Volante
@realtruenorthАй бұрын
Yeah, that's not their thing,, but for just Crystal clear delays, I prefer Eventide. I have the H90 and a strymon El Capistan for tape echo. Eventide has the best effects overall though.

The wow and flutter on the Volante is much better, especially the flutter part. The h90 does not sound all that random with it. I hear the wow in the h90 but almost no flutter. While it is pleasantly produced in the Volante. I have yet to find a better tape delay. Also the drive sounds less heavy handed on the Volante and more akin to pushing recording levels past what tape can handle vs the h90 sounding like just standard distortion / diode clipping. Also the repeats degrade in a tape getting less saturated fashion on the Volante vs filtering on the h90.

This could easily be explained by the players setting’s. I don’t think you can say anything is much better then something else. Until you have compared the two units for yourself.
@cinemalulli Жыл бұрын
Very similar but I prefer volante especially the wow and flutter part, much more convincing than the h90. It would have been nice to have both sounds in stereo, so as to better appreciate the amplitude of the sound and the panning

Volante for the win, no pedal beats the Volante, for delay… however the H90 has lots of amazing sounds though, from rotary chorus phaser reverb etc at a very high standard, so I can see the attraction.
@BrockDavisson2 жыл бұрын
I loved them both, however I think I liked in the video at least the darker delay with modulation on the volante but maybe the H90 wasn't set right. And the gritty delay on H90 has a bit too much oscillation or something on the tail but could be not set right again, however both very usable!

I own both. For as large as the Volante is, I will prob sell it. I does have a specific tone, but I just got the Brig and have an old El cap also. The H90 and the other Strymon’s cover enough ground.

Hi awesome video! I assume h9 Max would be able to pull off "Knife Drop" completely since it has HotSawz?

Is that h90 algorithm also available on the h9?

Unfortunately not. It´s a new algorithm, just for the h90.

Did you have the input set to instrument on the Volante for a gritty delay? I swear mine gets grittier.
@delaydude Жыл бұрын
Yes, I set it to instrument. The preamp is pretty touch sensitive and my pickups have a low output. With my P-90 equipped guitar, it sounds grittier, too.

two top end pedals and a demo in mono??

Yes, if it sounds good in mono, it will definitely sound good in stereo. 😀. But you are right. I might do a stereo demo, too. Thanks!

@@delaydude , Thank you for the mono demo. A lot of people us high end mod pedals an mono rigs, maybe even a majority, and nearly all the demos are in stereo. I love that you did this in mono.

Volante is just a echo unit with limited reverb sounds, H90 has much more glassy shimmers, reverbs, pitch bending, harmanizing flanger phases shifters, you comparing apples and oranges. Basically your comparing echos.
@delaydude Жыл бұрын
Absolutely, the H90 is a real workhorse. In my video, I´ve compared the new tape algorithm, which the H90 offers, with the Strymon Volante. The tape algorithm is one of the new sounds, compared the the H9 and it really sounds great.

The H90 is not setup to match the Volante....too much drive in the signal on the H90...most setting sound like a fuzz on the tails.
