This is a great separation and definition of the 2 categories although as an audio engineer in live event production turned event planner and business owner of my own event company, I’d say creativity is a huge component in both roles. We specialize in purpose driven events for businesses & nonprofits and we have found that many of our clients lean on our creativity throughout the process of planning their event. That said, as a former engineer, it’s always fun to work with my production partners and drum up fun special features for the clients that make their events pop!

This is very great for me. I have been in Event Planning and Management since 2012. This video session just shed a lot of light to what have been doing over these years and how to define myself/company and brand moving forward and also how to charge&delegate responsibilities according to skills and strength. Thank you so much. Seyifunmi from Nigeria

Thank you for this video! I work at a university running Esports events. I sort of fell into the job, I'm not naturally a planner or a producer of events but I've had to learn the skills. At times my duties are very ambiguous and I just have to fill the role required of me regardless of what it may be. I know how to do the it work, broadcasting work, tournament organizing, and more. I didn't know the difference between products and planning until I watch some videos on event organizing. Then I searched the difference between the two and your video popped up. Being able to differentiate the two will hopefully lead to less stress and perhaps I can delegate some of those duties. I may also be able to ask for better pay since I'm doing two people's jobs.😅🙏🏽

Thanks! As an entertainer working on and off with event and meeting professionals, this is super helpful to learn about. It gives ideas to experiment with when it comes to to fitting into events. For examples, Stephanie mentioning "coffee breaks" raises the question of whether or not entertainment might work for coffee breaks.

Hi. Can you please share how you charge clients as the Event Producer + Planner? I' know industry average is 20% of managed budget (which I've done successfully in the past) but now I am coordinating the Grand Opening of new venues (multiuse spaces such as a lounge+retail+cafe) The challenge in pricing for me is that I will be managing the existing business' team and utilizing their venue, so how would I factor that in as a line item which I am managing because I didn't have to source the site or hire the staff, but I still need to be paid to manage the value of them. Thank you!
