Everclear frontman Art Alexakis discusses multiple sclerosis diagnosis

Everclear frontman Art Alexakis is getting ready for a solo tour and is talking honestly about his diagnosis with MS.

I grew up listening to everclear. Still one of my favorite bands. It’s still hard for me to listen to sparkle and fade without tearing up. That album means so much to me. I’ve always wanted to meet Art. I just want to give him a hug and tell him he helped me through my teenage years with his music. I actually got an everclear tattoo on my back. I love him!! This is so sad!!! My sister in law has MS. She’s not doing well right now. We love you Art Alexakis! You have a spot in my heart forever.

I was able to meet him after a new years eve show in Chicago that I went to with my dad. We waited for him to come out after the show to meet him and ask him to sigh autograph. When he came out he asked how long we were waiting. I told him maybe ten minutes. He was told us that we shouldn't have waited that long. (He was alittle upset no one told him that we were waiting for him) He took a photo with me signed my photo. He talked to my dad and I for about ten to twenty minutes. He is just really nice guy. I was able to talk to him a couple more times at different concerts and he is just awesome. Like you his music helped me through a tough time that I was having when I was a teen. I love him and his music.

Damn, how come I didn't know this till today? One of my favorite songwriters/musicians ever. I got diagnosed in 2012 with lesions on my spine and brain. I'm now confined to a wheelchair, but Art's right, you gotta get out there and keep on living. As long as my mind is sound (debatable, lol), I can contribute something positive to the world. And of course, he is an inspiration to me all over again.

Thank you! I was diagnosed with MS this passed March (2021). My neuro has said I have been living with this for 20 years…..and I just thought I was clumsy, foggy, and depressed. You are SO right about “learning to be the new me.” I am a writer and editor. The relapse that led to my diagnosis was heartbreaking. But you are right! I never stopped my work. Even though my speech is not completely back, my writing is quickly coming back. All we can do is keep moving forward.

I got arrested once and questioned 3 other times and cps called on me , because I have the same thing . People think I'm wasted when I am really have health issues . Nice society we love in no adays !

There are a lot of countries with better heathcare and nicer people... My mom had MS and I grew up in AmeriKKKa - I was stuck in extreme poverty, but I saved my money, moved abroad and eventually found a great career and a wonderful wife. It's your life - surround yourself with people who appreciate you.

Damn how sad. I forgot about this band because my life has taken so many twist and turns the last 20+ years. Been watching videos with this guy and must say he's as real a dude as you can get. Man, I was listening to wonderful on Sirius...a show being hosted by the brothers from 'Lit', and for some odd reason, (I've never done this), I looked up "the Alex alexakis story". What a bummer, but what's odd is I have similar symptoms...gulp. What's cool though, is I was born in Pasadena in 1971, lived way up Lake Street close to Altadena. That house my parents bought for 39k is now worth over a million! We moved out in 1982. Anyway, your song father of mine always brought me to tears. I love your music
