I use ultralight spoons all the time set up like that, remove the treble, put on a single gold hook and a one inch gulp minnow. Killer for big bluegills and yellow perch in the Finger Lakes. Nice video, never saw anyone catch those cichlids before. I think I would really like that!

99% of alligators I could care less about but there's a couple in mosquito lagoon that scare me. They book it right at you when you get close and I know people that wade fish over there... without a gun.

@@MRMIKE276those gator’s are probably expecting people to feed them fish. They were probably fed at some point in the past by some dumb dumbs who should have known better and then learned to beg from people. They probably wouldn’t actually do anything except follow people around

If you want to catch the needle fish, a super tiny treble hook is the way to go. I took one off of a micro yozuri crankbait and it worked awesome with a white jig

Houndfish and needlefish have a delicious clean white delicate meat when cooked. They do have extra bones so I don't recomend small ones unless you deep fry them til crispy. Their bones are blueish which gives the meat an aquamarine tint when raw. Next time you see a large houndfish(2and a half to 4 feet) drag a lure near it, the fight will remind you of a small billfish.

Yea you can eat both needlefish and houndfish. Needlefish really arent worth it bc so many bones but houndfish is actually pretty good if ya catch one big enough to actually fillet. The thing is down in the Keys there so many other good eating fish I wouldnt really bother with either one unless you are starving and thats all ya catch! Which would be super rare.🤣😎😎🎣

Lookdowns are definitely a 9. Try scoring skin and whole fry or marinate in mix of garlic, lime zest and olive oil for 30 min then whole grilled. Meat in between the bones is delicious. Yellow jack is incredibly good. Sashimi is very popular. It's a very versatile fish and it'll take to a lot of prep styles. Great vid of an everyday fisherman's journey

Always enjoy Elias videos. Those panfish were HUGE. I fished yesterday also in SW Florida. Typical winter day, full moon, crazy winter low tide, prob the lowest I have ever seen where I fished. Got a mixed bag, hard to target fish on bluebird sky and high barometer. Keep plugging. I am with Elias 100%, I want to catch fish MY WAY. Screw paying a guide unless your going offshore and you may never do it again. I prob still wouldn't get one. Bottom line, if the fish are not eating gulps or powerbait then they won't eat shrimp either.

Wow very impressed on the hits with micro jigging! Lots of activity and species around that bridge! What a huge surprise visit with the Pompano! Love the catch and cook! Oh and about the Hound fish! Yes they're edible but never tried it! They're very popular to eat in the Caribbean islands. You can filet them and cook them like fish fingers. They say to let them sit in milk for 30min and rinse it off before you do the bread bath. You should give it a shot! So happy you're here brother! Want to learn more of your bag of tricks!
