Thanks for the great review! Appreciate the noise comparison as well, now I'm sold and have to give Evergoods more of my dollars lol. Also so glad you compared the weight and pointed out that no one would ever notice. The ounces = pounds, pounds = pain saying from the military makes sense when you're talking about long hikes, extreme conditions, etc. So honestly, unless you are talking about a 20 or 30+ mile hike or mountain climbing, the weight of all these packs we love really isn't noticeable. For EDC and travel, if the bag weighs 1lb or 2 more, no one will ever notice once it's loaded out.

Nice! Sorry about that...for your wallet. And I agree over a long distance the weight would matter. It amuses me how people complain about weight of the bag at times. Don't get me wrong, some of these bags feel excessively heavy, but in most cases it really doesn't impact my decision on a bag.

I ordered the black version. I got the Ecopak version mainly for the better weatherproofing compared to the original. Really looking forward to taking it on an upcoming trip to the PNW and see how it holds up. Really enjoy your videos and how you review so many bags. Just bought the black one, plan to compare it to my 420d....but, man! Whew that coyote 🔥. I had a chz22 in dark khaki that got really dirty over the years and the stains would not come out no matter what i tried. I've been a little gun shy of tan packs since then. Maybe a cap1 or cap2 in khaki would hold me over..thanks for the timely vid as always JB.

@@BerkCanAslandogan yea the ecopak is pretty awesome and changes the character of the bag, definitely adds structure, and I think feels a little more substantial in hand. I think JB's video sums it up really well. I plan to keep both but the ecopak is probably going to see the most use.

The ecopak is easy to wipe off I read, but I guess the water bottle pockets will stain. I’m deciding on the colour but the coyote is sold out here. Now leaning on the black 😅

Thank you for this video! I love the part where you lay them flat. Would they compress more to be packable backpacks into say a CTB35 or other travel backpack? I see the MPL22 being a good day bag when you don't want to take your travel bag out. But only if it's fairly packable. Thank you!

Yes, absolutely. While not technically "packable" it is packable enough for that.

I’ve picked up the CPL in the black, looking forward to comparing it to the Goruck GR1 Kaidan 3 ultra. I don’t really need either of them so will prob just keep one as I have both in their original materials.

How would you compare the hand feel of this fabric compared to their 840d fabric used in the CHZ V2 and CPL V3?

Great question. In this video I’m comparing it to the 420D. The 840D is still a little bit lighter compared to EPX400. That said they’re more on par with a thickness feel. Texture would be about he same as you see in this video.

If CHZ/CPL24 are too long/dig into my back, would you rec MPL22 (which also looks long) and which version, if any? I need support. Not fond of creases, especially if not filled to brim. For work, might not be ticket. Love their bags. Have yet to find harness a fit...I like a structured bag that holds its shape, which is why I wear GR1 - wish it was lighter...Aside: how is Dynema holding up? Maybe that's the ticket? Awesome video, as usual.

Essentially the same height as the CHZ22 and CPL24 at 17.75" tall. The EcoPak holds its shape maybe slightly more but not much. Dyneema is always awesome.

I think you have blue trekking poles in the water bottle holder. Do you think a Peak Design Travel Tripod would stay in there comfortably? I don’t see a way to secure the top of the tripod from slipping out, so may need to wait for the MPL30 to release in different non-black materials

Yeah, the shorter trekking poles work well but longer ones or the PD tripod are a little too big for extended carry IMHO

@@JBOutside1 My only concern with the abrasion testing and the low amount of cycles, listing at 300. In comparison, the VX series cloth from Dimension at 1500 and for X50 Tactical at 2000 cycles. But, of course I still remember your drag tests with the VX21 material, painful to see just how shredded it ended up.

Thanks for the comparison. I just got the ecopak version and a CHZ 22 to compare, I find the CHZ straps to slide off my shoulders, while the mpl22 ecopak sits a bit better. Still not reaaaally comfy. Any idea why this would be? Are evergoods straps always so slippery and broad shouldered? Seems like I almost "need" to use the sternum strap. They also sort of dig in a bit on the shoulders, hopefully this would break in?

I've noticed that the straps do break in slightly and once I find the sweet spot for strap length and get the sternum strap in the right spot it's very comfortable...but that's just me. The friction of the different materials work different in terms of slip too

Not very. I’ll try a do a quick comparison video but ultra is more slick and more durable. 8,800 cycles for Ultra vs 3,000 for EPX400
