In this video, we choose a 3D Printer, modify it to run from our DC Solar Power supply, and build it into the storage compartment of our self-built, self-sufficient, Overland Truck.
"Building" and "Making" is in my DNA and when I find a problem or something that can be made better, I can't sleep until I fix it, either in our truck or rigs of friends we make along the way. And while we carry two extra of everything we used to build the truck and a good selection of tools, bubblegum, and duct tape - this only gets you so far. It's sometimes hard to whittle something out of nothing or shape bubblegum into a complex IPR wrench. (www.thingiverse.com/thing:324...)
This is the Ender 3 V2 I ordered: amzn.to/3nXRndW
So in this video, we install a 3D printer, reinforce it for the rigors of life on the road, and power it with a DC-DC converter to run from our Lithium and Solar. I'll show an Introduction, the very basics of 3D printing, and show a handful of parts we've made already.
10 points to the person who can spot the unmentioned 3D print hiding in plain sight.

When I tell people that I have 3D printing as somewhat of a hobby, I think most assume that 3D printing is just for toys and trinkets. I appreciate it when folks like you do videos like this and kind of get rid of that misconception. I 3D print stuff to be useful around my house all the time. Like you, I find that I can 3D print things that I couldn't buy. For instance I just 3D printed a wall plate that allowed me to have a duplex plug and a 20 amp twist lock in a double gang box. Before remembering I could 3D print this I scoured the web and couldn't find one.

Dangling berries, LMAO!! I love your deadpan delivery. Excellent use of space inside your rig. Glad you are making the most of your lockdown time. Great video!

I'm a very light sleeper, so even though it is nearly silent, I'm not sure I would try and sleep through it. That being said, it's easy enough to start a print in the early morning and have it done by nightfall... Anything longer than that, I'd pull it out and put it in the truck cab, this is where it lived and printed for the first few weeks.

@@Everlanders I think that instead of attaching the printer with screws you could use some kind of rubber blocks like the ones that are used on AC external units. Then if you put some kind of sound insulation around all the printer, I know one of the best sound isolation materials is aerogel and you can buy isolation panels with aerogel particles, but I think they are expensive and not sure if they are worth the mony if you are not going to print large pieces frequently.

I have a heavy ass metal military surplus table probably weighs 300 pounds, with damping material under the printer. I still get some misprints and stuff I blame on something moving or getting vibration. If you get this damn thing mounted in your vehicle and are able to reliably print stuff after beating around off road you are a "GOD". These things are so persnickety, and probably the most aggravating, all consuming fing things ever!! But it's like golf every once in a while you get a good shot or print and it works! Keeps you coming back!
