Lyrics:
We've all seen a man at the liquor store beggin' for your change
The hair on his face is dirty, dread-locked, and full of mange
He asks a man for what he could spare, with shame in his eyes
"Get a job you fu**in' slob," is all he replies
God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in his shoes
'Cause then you really might know what it's like to sing the blues
(Hook)
Then you really might know what it's like
Then you really might know what it's like
Then you really might know what it's like
Then you really might know what it's like
Mary got pregnant from a kid named Tom that said he was in love
He said, "don't worry about a thing, baby doll I'm the man you've been dreaming of."
But three months later he say he won't date her or return her calls
And she swear, "goddamn, if I find that man I'm cuttin' off his balls"
And then she heads for the clinic and she gets some static walking through the door.
They call her a killer, and they call her a sinner and they call her a whore
God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in her shoes
'Cause then you really might know what it's like to have to choose
(Hook)
I've seen a rich man beg I've seen a good man sin
I've seen a tough man cry
I've seen a loser win and a sad man grin
I heard an honest man lie
I've seen the good side of bad and the downside of up
And everything between
I licked the silver spoon drank from the golden cup
And smoked the finest green
I stroked the fattest dimes at least a couple of times
Before I broke their heart
You know where it ends, yo, it usually depends on where you start
I knew this kid named Max who used to get fat stacks out on the corner with drugs
He liked to hang out late he liked to get shit-faced and keep the pace with thugs
Until late one night there was a big gun fight and max lost his head
He pulled out his chrome .45, talked some shit, and wound up dead
Now his wife and his kids are caught in the midst of all of this pain
You know it comes that way at least that's what they say when you play the game
God forbid you ever had to wake up to hear the news
'Cause then you really might know what it's like to have to lose
Then you really might know what it's like
Then you really might know what it's like
Then you really might know what it's like
Then you really might know what it's like to have to lose

I'm homeless right now I'm staying in a motel 6 surviving through this bad weather. I wish more people knew what it's like to walk in my shoes it ain't easy or fair or enjoyable. Being homeless is miserable but I know one day I'll make it out. Hopefully.

I believe the message of this music is: Never judge someone you don't know over something you didn't see with your own eyes. to have some compassion with other human beings. And that goes with my life philosophy - everybody fights for what they believe in. So How do you demonize a enemy who fights for whats right in his eyes? in the end we all want the greater good. So in the end, the fight becomes meaningless. A mere stone in our shoes that mankind needs to overcome. Very pretty song by the way.

The problem I have is that they have all these problems because of bad choices. It in not like they were injured in a car accident, got cancer, or their house burned down. Instead it was someone that put drugs and laziness above job, house, family..., another having unprotected sex, another hanging with gangs and pulling a gun... when he has a wife and kids at home. While I like the song personally and I might understand their situation, but I would have little sympathy for these people. They made the choices and likely will keep making bad choices until they hit rock bottom or die.

The problem with "you don't understand my life" is that it works both ways. Comparing one of your lowest points with someone else's higher points is an invalid comparrison. Additionally, not everyone had to sacrafice and suffer to acheive success, but most do. You see the happy family at the end and you assume they were just handed that happy life. Well you know what happens when you assume. I was homeless at 14. I make good money now and my friends don't hesitate to point it out. I could have that dinner at the end, but behind it was years of sacrafice and suffering that you wouldn't see. I have scars from physical and emotional truama inflicted by people who took advantage of me, so hate me for having that dinner out of ignorance and envy.

I hear that. I had everything in the world and lost it all when I got in a motorcycle accident at 23. I had to relearn how to live life in its entirety. I still am working on myself and still pushing, I'm not where I want to be yet. One might think "oh you were riding that bike around like a maniac, you deserved it" but all it takes is a preoccupied woman getting her coffee at Starbucks to punch the accelerator, lose control, hit my best friend who's body literally exploded in front of me, his arm hit me in the helmet... and he protected me, he was who saved my life.. then you really might know what it's like? For as much as they try to say we are all different were all the same. Same scars same pain same loss, different periods in our lives. RIP Vinny, I love you, brother.

This song brings back so many memories of when I was homeless on the streets. I'd hate for my worst enemy to go through what I've been through to hell and back. I told myself know what it was like to have lots of money that I didn't know what to do with and what it was like to have nothing but pieces of paper to eat when I was in prison. But now look back and make me strong and keeps me going. Life is a bitch, but she's mine, though

Ya'll are askin "why"? This is a song about empathy, walking in someone else's shoes to know how hardship feels when you don't have to personally go through it. Ev has faced death, and knows it's about "walking a mile in their shoes". Folks these days seem to judge others with no idea how it is to be someone else who didn't have all the opportunities you had. Imagine you were poor growing up, imagine you were black growing up, imagine you had health problems and everyone around you made fun of you for it. Life isn't perfect for most people, we're not all strong and favored since birth. This song is about trying to relate to people who didn't have the opportunities you might have had.
