Not sure this is even close (lol) but this is what we did trying to recreate the vibe… 16th notes starting on the “e” of the 1 1st pass: Gb, (Octave up) Gb, Ab, Bb, Db, Eb, F, F, Bb 2nd pass: Ab, Bb, Db, Db, C, Ab, Bb, Bb, F Hopefully someone else can lend a better ear and give us the exact line!

I don't think he actually is. If you watch at 2:34, for example, you can see he's actually playing octaves (note the position of his index finger and pinkie finger). Also, he's not playing them exactly together, which is why you get that awesome octave-delay effect. He's playing the lower note and then a 16th later playing the octave. The basic line is an 8th note groove but the octave turns it into a 16th note groove and it feels a little bit like both. You get the laid-back steady feel from the 8th pulse of the basic line outlined by the lower notes. Because the octave 16th groove echoes the main line it's able to add the fullness and energy of a 16th groove without completely changing the fundamental feel of the 8th note groove underneath. Very, very cool. 2:40 really convinces me that he's not using an octave pedal. He switches seamless to a straight line without octaves and you can see it in his hands.
