In the fall of 2016, the Indiana Office of Tourism Development celebrated Indiana's 200th anniversary with a Bicentennial Torch Relay. This torch relay connected all 92 counties of our state by a route that was some 3,200 miles long. More than 2,200 Hoosiers carried the torch, passing the flame from person to person. The relay also employed other modes of conveyance that are symbolic of the history and heritage of Indiana, including watercraft, farm equipment, a racecar, horse and wagon, antique automobile, and others. Patterned after the Olympic Torch Relay, Indiana’s version lasted over a five-week period and averaged 90 miles per day.
