Here's what I do. I create 2 notebooks, one called Work Journal, and one called Personal Journal. I place into my journal any type of note where the primary organizational dimension is date-based. This includes "Meeting" - for notes about a meeting, "Journal" for personal writing, "Web Clip" for web clips, and "Daily Log" for a dissertation of my daily activities, to-do items, etc, "Weekly Log" for weekly summaries, and "Monthly Log" for monthly summaries. The title of the note is organized as follows: YYYY/MM/DD : EntryType [: Optional descriptive title] The date refers to the applicable date of the entry, which is not necessarily the same as the Created date or the Updated date (I wish Evernote had a manually settable Applicable Date field). I put the year first, then month, then day, in full 4-2-2 format (zero-prefixed), that way I can sort by title in reverse order. I tag each entry with tags corresponding to: year, month, and entry type. Log entries receive an extra tag of "dailylog", "weeklylog", or "monthlylog". The allows me to keep all my date-based information in one notebook, and quickly search for what I'm looking for.

Thank you Scott. I look forward to using the journal, unless it is a Premium feature. Same for the MOHIL. I just can not afford premium. I always learn from your video's and really enjoy your way of presenting new information. The more I use Evernote the more I understand how powerful it is, because of you. Bless you and thank you again. :-)

I'm one who writes faster than I can type (when I'm not near my MacBook Air's keyboard especially). When a journal entry hits me in the middle of the day, I find it far easier to jot it down on paper in my Moleskine and to use Evernote Scannable to scan that page/those notes into my Daily Record of Events notebook in Evernote in the evening. I can ALSO keep journal entries in the same notebook that are typed from within the app on whatever device I have handy at the time. This offers me the best of both worlds. One trick I have for dated entries is that I use the date format YYYYMMDD as the start of any title so that if you sort by title your journal entries sort themselves by the date. This has become especially important as I'm now in the process of adding all of my 'pre-tech' hand written journals from years past into Evernote. As I'm 'scanning' each page with Scannable, it puts the entry from years past in as if it were an entry from TODAY. Sorting by the title allows me to put them in correct chronological order. Using the YYYYMMDD format allows me to do that over years. Using DDMMYY or MMDDYY would sort all entries for any given day or month together over the years and that is confusing. :)

hi! i tried Mohio map. I am visual. I was lost as to how it might help organize and see connections. I'm going to look and see if you did the more focused in-depth video. I deleted mohio because I just didn't understand how it could be used. Thanks for sharing your ideas and insights into using Evernote.

Quick tip for journalers: Automate the creation of your daily notes with this: zpr.io/74u3 - Zapier is a freemium service like IFTTT, and I use it for my daily notes. Everyday at midnight it creates the note for that day and titles it the day of the week plus the month/day/year. Removing the step of manually creating that note every day has been hugely helpful in a small annoyance and motivates me to fill it in every day. Plus if you have a certain format to your journal entries, you can have it auto fill that for you too.

That was such a major waste of time. You showed the most basic of evernote features, how to set up a notebook, then spent all your time on Mohio Map. If you want to do a Mohio Map video, just do so. But you're little tease in the title indicates that it was all about Mohio Map to begin with. The other information, how to make a new notebook and title it, etc. was just no big deal. You even had other commenters mentioning things they would have liked to have seen that were relevant, Since we are relying on you to be the expert, those are things you should have thought of and included. Major disappointment.

Interesting video, however, too much emphasis on Mohio.

Hey Scott, I really like the "journal" thing - can you "duplicate" the notes in the journal - so the first one is like a template? That would be cool. I sniffed around, but didn't see a duplicate or copy feature.

PS - if you create a tag with the year, and/or month - you can make things easier to find too.

This looked like a great system for me so I went to the Mohiomap website. However, there was a message saying "Mohiomap is going through some changes and is currently not available. If you would like to be notified of upcoming releases, please sign up below. For any questions you can contact us at hello@moh.io". Any ideas what's become of it? I wonder if it's been unavailable for a long time or if it's about to be replaced by something else very soon.

Hi Scott, a notebook for journal and hundreds of separate notes is too complex for me. I have 1 note per year called 'journal 2016' ... and in that one note I write everything per date. Is just fine for me; it is also easier to find my thoughts. Thanks for your videos.
