Greatest. Game. Ever. There is no comparison between EQ and newer MMORPGs. EQ fostered... hell.... it forced you to work together with others in the community to get nearly everything. There was no going and soloing your way to max level in a month. You needed a group, you needed help, you needed to band together! Nowadays it's an "every man for himself" mentality. The only groups created are for end game content.... played by only a small percentage of any gaming community. Ultra rare mobs needed for quest to get ultra rare and class specific items. Camp for hours or days to find them. Get your guild together and go explore a dungeon that none of you have ever experienced. Get wiped out because you were grossly under prepared and laugh about it instead of getting pissed. Thats the shit I miss.

Agreed. I tried playing the most independant class of all, Necromancer, soloing the whole way, and I found it tedious and slow, even being funded by a high level Enchanter with lots of money. Gave up on that toon by the time I got to the first zone of Velious, it just wasn't fun. So much more enjoyable in a full group, working in unison.

2000-2009 I played an iksar monk (Fulast) on Mithaniel Marr (Guild Forsaken Realm), and later on, on Antonius Bayle (Guild: Raging Fury). Raided all high end stuff up to, and including, the Seeds of Destruction expansion. I just found your channel. I will love following your progression on P1999. Keep playing! :)

This really makes me pine for my old Iksar necro, heh. I love the Iksar starting areas, FoB is one of my all time favorite starting zones. There are so many cool little things to discover throughout the zone that most never see. Such as the island with the giant gorilla. A few different catacombs, that semi hidden valley with slightly tougher mobs between the cab ruins and where you would zone to I think WW. Kurn's Tower is also among my favorite low level dungeons. Kaesora is also a super fun mid-levels dungeon. Really Kunark in general has always been my favorite continent.

that was me like 15 years ago. good times, good times. EQ was such a time sink & cost me at least one job. but I still loved every minute of it.

Sounds like my experience of the game too. WoW was decent in it's own way, but EQ just had something special about it and remains the best of the lot. I even enjoyed twisting 5-6 songs on my bard without using macros or addons. I quit in '05 too and tried it our the other week but felt utterly lost with the interface and controls. Managed to wander around enough to get the nostalgia flowing though. What a game!

There is also great quest for collecting curscale pelts and hand in for xp and armor. You get it across monk guild inside the little house. Just hail the dude and say "I will perform a small service" fill the bag with pelts and combine, turn in. Great xp! And some free random armor. Awsome series btw. I watched it several times and now started playing again after 15 year break. An Iksar Monk ofc :D

This is very cool to watch, thank you for these. I was only 5 when Everquest came out, and I attempted to play it a few years ago, but it was quite daunting, so I didn't get far. This game is quite the gem, and watching/listening to you is very helpful. God bless. =)

Dude, thank you for these. I originally started EQ in 2000 when I was in 6th grade; Ruins of Kunark was my very first computer game, and even how I learned to type, hah. I quit in '05 and finally came back to live in late 2012. No other game ever filled that void that EQ left when I quit, sounds cheesy but it's true lol. Live is way, way different, but it successfully gives me that dose of nostalgia. I even play with the original character models. I love these vids, and I've subscribed :) Cheers

Oh shoot. I was hoping you'd at least get into pulling from The Pit or talk a bit about Kurn's Tower. This is a zone you really - can - have an adventure in.

Official EverQuest which people refer to as EQ Live is very different now, however what you are seeing here is an emulated server called Project 1999 and it recreates the EverQuest experience from the original game and currently The Ruins of Kunark expansion. Just do a google search for Project1999 and you can find all the info you need ;)

Haha yes it is very unrefined, I mean id say give it a go, it cant hurt and project1999 is a free server. However if you never played it back in the day you may have some trouble just getting the hang of the game, it is very unforgiving game especially early on and even more so if you don't have friends. But if you like a challenge, go for it! It can also be a very rewarding experience if you overcome all the ridiculous stuff

Thank you, that actually got me to decide to play again. Though, in your retrospective vid, you showed the older-looking UI. Is there a way to get that for p99 or no?
@Vareous
@Vareous 11 жыл бұрын
You can get some recreations of the original UI however they are never quite the same, any research on how to get the true original UI back pretty much comes back saying its impossible. I cant recall where I found the one I used in the retrospective, I just found it by doing a google search and it popped up on a EQ custom UI website, that one however restricted you to a very small resolution. Hope that helps and good luck.

Hey Vareous, do you think I should try playing this game still? I mean to be honest it looks pretty unrefined, which I guess it is, but is there still that awesome community everyone raves about? Just wondering, nice video.

Brings back so many memories for myself and my wife, we both started in early 99 and met ingame during 2001. Have been dabating whether or not to try 1999 but have had a hard time finding titanium. If you could give us any info on how to get a copy would be appreciated as we'd both love to get back into it. FYI we are both aussies also.

Hey great quality and great audio, makes it easy to enjoy. Gonna continue to watch your series, hoping to see alot more. Probably going to role a character on Project 1999 now because of you lol. Just wondering, how are the servers and population? Also any guides you can suggest for project 1999? Looking to start an Erudite Mage, need to refresh my memory on classic EQ though.
@Vareous
@Vareous 11 жыл бұрын
There are 2 servers for project99 Blue and Red. Red is a PvP server and has a very low population however Blue is the non PvP server and the population will range from around 300 at extreme offpeak to upwards of 1200 during peak hours and weekends. As for guides, the project 1999 wiki is absolutely amazing, packed with almost all the information you could ever need, as for anything else you might need you can usually find good information on the p1999 forums. You can find plenty of great guides on both the wiki and the forums, in your case I would recommend going to the wiki and reading the info on the mage section to get some great info on starting stats and racial differences etc. Hope this all helps and hope to see you running around the game soon ;)

Is it necessary to grind levels from lv1? Can you not get enough xp from quests?
@MyGoodFriendJon
@MyGoodFriendJon 9 жыл бұрын
Wastedswan Pretty much. Quests are few and far between in EQ. The vast majority of leveling up in EQ is through grinding. Once you hit around level 10-15, it starts becoming hard to solo mobs, as well. You need to form groups to grind enemies with.
@GrassSaint33
@GrassSaint33 9 жыл бұрын
+Wastedswan It's not quite like WoW where there are a million "kill X number of Y's" quests everywhere you look. Most of the quests in classic EQ are unique and can take a while to complete.

ya but Iksar gets REGENERATION and AC boost and Infravision and Fire Resist and Swimming boost... most overpowered race in the game... easily.
