This is a great eq story! It captures the spirit of eq game play so well! (And oh my gosh I remember farming those hill giants!) Thanks for sharing!

Awesome story :) I played my bard for years and years, and I too loved the illusion masks. I never got as many as you did, but I understand the impulse.

During my short-lived attempt at barding circa 2001, I used to want the Gnome illusion mask from the Sleeper's Lair so badly! I was really bummed when I learned that Kerafyrm herself--"the Sleeper"--had been awakened on my server, which meant that her guardians (who dropped the rare Gnome mask) would never again spawn. Something like that, anyway, so I gave up that dream and was happy enough returning to my Enchanter, where I could take on any form I wanted without those aggravating masks. :P

Great story...I remember many of my favorite accomplishments to this day and that was years ago. I played a Magician and the night I finally got my epic was...ummm...epic. My friends were hella excited for me and went with me to the hand in and then demanded a speech after I equipped it. Hard to explain to people who have never experienced it just how much those accomplishments mean to a person.

Ahhh memories! My favorite was the gnome mask. I never did manage to get the halfling mask which still makes me sad. I had all the rest of them up until the point where I quit which I think was after LDON was released.

Gratz man great story but I have a small question, when you said you got the mask in the raid for 5kdp what is that referring to?

***** DKP (or Dragon Kill Points) is a system that guilds in MMO's use to decide who gets what loot. Different people use it in different ways but the general idea is per boss or per raid you attend, each person in the raid will get a set amount of DKP. That DKP is used as currency for the items that drop. Some guilds have set prices for DKP on items and the person with the most DKP will win in a situation where more than one player wants an item. Other guilds use the bidding system which is what I was talking about in the video, where each player bids against one another for the item, usually in set increments of 5 or 10 and the person who bids the highest wins. There are a lot of other interesting ways people use the DKP concept and you will find it in every MMO out there even today, but it originated in EQ because back in the day most of the end game raid targets were all dragons.

I got the human mask from vex thal and the elf mask later on during planes of power on my Iksar monk... that helped so much with faction issues!

I never got to do any cool shit in this game. No raiding, no epics =/. Still loved it, but can't help but feel like I missed out on so much.

If you try out any of the Emu server like P99 look for Imperium Server, it's a solo/duo raid server, so you can experience all of the end game content yourself. There were mobs I never got to see that the server allowed me to finally take on, was cool.
