Gareth Farrelly's only Everton League goal secures a draw against Coventry.
That - coupled with Bolton's defeat at Chelsea - ensures that the Toffees avoid relegation, dramatically, on the final day of the 1997/98 season.

Even though we celebrated at the end with relief, it was honestly the worst day I’ve ever had as an Everton fan. I was 11 and remember everything, I was too young to remember 94 really but remember it vaguely.

What a fuckin goal as well but that tension is horrible mate I get that, I’ll never forget when Ireland played Germany World Cup 2002 and I was afraid “we’re going home if we lose this “ and the tension was horrible til the last minute Robbie Keane scores, was just a massive release of emotion and going potty 😂😂

It's you and all who've come after you I feel for today, 25 years on as we prepare to go through it again against Bournemouth today. I'm fortunate in that my only childhood memory of relegation was in 1980 when there was never any serious danger of going down. Then all I knew was a team that could demolish anybody and won the title twice. A decade on I couldn't understand how we'd come to this twice in four years [I suspect many Leicester fans will experience that sort of feeling today] A few year back people used to say supporting Everton must be the most boring experience in the Premier League. not good enough for the top six, too good for the rest. 7th every year. I'd sell a kidney to be boring again for a few years.

Never forgotten the atmosphere that day..it was vicious...there was rumours liverpool fans were gonna walk with a blue coffin..wise decision..they didn't..they would have got absolutely smashed all over the place

"Everton stay up by the skin of their teeth".... words i never want too hear again. We are a better team and a better club than that. I never want us to be in that postion again, nor should we be.

Was at Leeds v Wimbledon at the same time due to my dad being a leeds fan and hearing the full time score thinking everton were relegated!

All came about from Peter Johnson undermining Joe Royle and allowing the local rag to slag him particularly McNulty. Royle left and nobody wanted to manage the club under Johnson. Dreadful times. Detested Johnson with a passion. We should never have been in that position.

This was my first ever away game as a Cov fan and I was only 15 at the time, my god I will never forget how loud it was, amazing day out and I remember the Everton fans coming over to the away corner and we were all singing "We are Premiere League, We are Premiere League"

On the eve of another final day decider I thought I would come back and watch this. Kneeled most of second half with head on seat in the park end as a 15 year old for this one. Will be 5,000 miles away for tomorrows game yet just as nervous. COYB!
