Thanks guys, that was a really fun watch. 😂 (new subscriber!).. I'm a big fan, have been since the early 80's. I got to see them a handful of times during the late 80's and 90's and to answer the question, that's why I'm such a fan because every time they rolled into the UK it was the best night out ever! They were such a fun band and I miss them so much, my life is more boring and far less exciting knowing I'll never experience seeing them again. It is a bit of a patchy discography to listen through I will admit. I think a lot of the albums suffer for different reasons. 'Off The Bone' was the first record I owned and probably still the one I listen to most, it sounded completely wild in 1983 to a 13 year old me because I hadn't heard all those 60's garage rock bands and obscure 50's rock and roll records that inspired them. My sister was listening to Duran Duran, I was listening to 'Human Fly' 😁

If you want to listen to a really good music podcast instead of this worthless drivel, check out That Record Got Me High. Their album this week is The Cramps “Songs The Lord Taught Us”!

Oh boy, if you guys hate rock'n'roll, it'd be fun to see your reaction to the Jesus & Mary Chain back catalog! (including early B-side compilation Barbed Wire Kisses)

I agree that it’s hard to find a lot of good songs with this band. The material is all retread. That being said, they are probably the best band I’ve ever seen live. You just had to be there I guess.

As a punk guy, having The Misfits albums and all, I always felt obligated to own some Cramps albums on vinyl, but never found them at a decent price. I just own a CD, Flamejob. I guess you're right, they are not punk, just look punk, and have great logo and album covers, so this episode made me feel better about not having anything by them on vinyl. Maybe the way Lux sings is kind of punk but not the music. So I'll just stick to my rockabilly and surf albums. I didn't know they did so many covers on their most "classic" albums, kind of hate that too, I mean The Stray Cats wrote their own tunes and they are great.

when I first saw you were doing The Cramps I thought "cool"....then I realized I was confusing them with someone else. i like Sunglasses After Dark, but yikes I didn't know they had that many albums. Way to tough it out fellas. You need a short palate cleanser after this one.

“This isn’t punk music.” Oh yeah? What’s punk music? Do you mean a punk sound? There’s no such thing as a cookie cutter punk sound unless you are influenced by Jann Wenner’s useless rag and therefore a certain sound is what you expect from punk rock. Punk was just the name of the underground Rock n Roll scenes in cities across the world. Bands that were too sick and derelict to be signed to majors. The music ranged in different styles. You could do whatever you wanted. No rules. No set style. The Cramps were one of those bands. The Cramps did what they wanted and they were there from the beginning. They never compromised. The Cramps were dangerous and low brow. All a kid needs in life is a MAD Magazine and a Cramps record and there you have it: a true punk in the making. It’s certainly frustrating watching critics categorize every Rock n Roll band into a sub genre but at the same time it’s gratifying when it doesn’t work and viewers get to see the confusion on your faces when you mutter “this isn’t punk music”.

I missed this one. Yes. Yes. The Cramps were a terrible band. Every time I’ve listened to the Cramps, I felt like they owed me some of their royalties, just because of the time in my life that was wasted.
