I love Zealand and Lonesome Lake and have great memories of staying off season with family and friends. I'm so glad you're carrying on that tradition.!

Another great video man!! I truly love that 3D mountain editing dude!!! I need to figure that out 👍 Also I wish we had huts near me, such a cool idea- I’d probably choose Mizpa

The best one is Lake of the Clouds. They housed us for two nights for five dollars each night and fed us leftovers from the paying customers. We got to sleep in the dungeon and avoided being blown off Mount Washington. AT Class of 2022.

There used to be a discount for booking 5 huts/lodges at once. The huts are awesome, Lakes of the clouds is my favorite with Carter right behind. Don’t forget Joe Dodge Lodge and the Highlands Center…they play into the discount too. Nice overview.

Great video! One other way you can save money: they usually discount a few of the huts, either because they are less popular, or to encourage people to go. Last year we did Carter during the full season and it was cheaper than the other huts. They actually renovated the cabins and bathrooms there a few years ago so it’s really nice, although the main building is still the same old stone building

Totally! I noticed Carter is a lot cheaper right now. Good to know they have done some upgrades. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.

Carter Hut also has 8 or so smaller rooms (4+ bunks in each) in 2 bunk houses, so it's a lot like Lonesome Lake. Great views of the Carters from the bunk rooms. Nice view of the hut from Wildcat A.@@rootsandpeaks

@@MikeRyder-ml2mb I really like Carter Notch. It’s such a strange one, but so worth the effort, IMO. As a kid, I loved climbing around in the ramparts. We got stuck there in a hail storm once. What an adventure that was!

Love the retro external frame packs. I'm really been looking for a steal for one at garage sales. (I know there are a few in FB marketplace) Have not stayed at a hut, yet. Maybe in the future, but I enjoy backcountry camping and avoiding others while in the whites.

Also, I wish I had this video before we hiked the AT. I was so confused about what the hut system was! No written info helped me at all!

Oh, awesome! Maybe it can be helpful for future AT-ers. Thanks for watching!

Zealand has a special place in my heart as that was my first hut followed by Galehead, Carter Notch, and Madison. Never got into Lake in the Clouds, always sold out (at least had soup/desert there). Wished I had stayed at Greenleaf, but it was locked down when I hiked by it in winter. And Mizpah and Lonesome Lake I’ve hiked near on the way to peak bagging. Got to get there one day. See you borrowed some of Rachel Whelton's videos - she has great visit videos to all the huts. Now my favorite has to be Madison Spring. It’s a ton of work to get there, but once there you’re deep in the presidentials and if you stay there a few nights you can experience many peaks plus the great ridge between Adams and Madison. Also run into many AT through hikers at many of the huts. Makes for some great mealtime conversations. From the ridge you can see some of the RMC huts. Never stayed at those yet. Last, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention both Highland Center and Joe Dodge. These are both great launch points to many of the NH48 and 52WAV peaks. Stayed at both many nights before I started staying at huts.

Rachel, Chris Goes Outdoors, and Laura Soule have great hiking videos. Review them all before I head out to get insight into my next NH48/52WAV peak or hut visit. @@rootsandpeaks
