Jujutsu Kaisen just dropped what might be the best episode of anime that we’ve gotten all year, but you wouldn’t believe the level of controversy this one episode caused in the community, as first off we were warned that this episode was going to air unfinished due to working conditions at Mappa, that not only caused a large amount of the animators to allegedly walk out, but even had some animators drawing scenes where the Mappa building is crushed by the battle between these two monsters. This took off on twitter with tons of people commenting on what might truly be the last beautiful episode of the series, while other people took to the timeline to explain why they don’t like the episode from an animation stand point, since of course the more loose style of animation used in this episode isn’t everyone’s cup of tea despite being some of MY absolute favorite. This caused large fights on the timeline like over this tweet from DaTruthDT giving his opinion on the style of animation used in the episode, and when you pair this with people already being really defensive over the animators it just caused on large storm that even STILL Wasn’t able to overshadow the actual episode itself, and I mean how could it when you have scenes like this that are just.. MAN.. You either think this looks absolutely awful or like one of the best sequences of animation ever made, so let me know what side YOU’RE on in the comments below.

It may be entirely coincidental, but the last few episodes, as Yuji’s stress level rises, the animation becomes more frantic and less detailed, mirroring what Yuji himself is experiencing. I thought it was brilliant, as a literal depiction of the red fog of battle.

I mean there are a lot of things you can see. When mahoraga gets pinned in the pool, from there you can really see what they were going for and what we ended up with. Theres the plane falling out of the sky, again saw what they were going for but it just looked like something hanging that was on fire. Also the sound design for some of the scenes. Again, like when mahoraga was pinned in the pool. When he blasted everything up it didnt sound nearly as it should. Right before sukuna uses his domain expansion when hes giving mahoraga those final slashes when all the buildings were coming down, its obvious it wasnt finished but doesnt take away from it. And then we come to the most obvious thing that points to it not being finished, sukunas flame arrow was like 3fps. And the sound design for the explosion as well. With all these being said, for an episode being my absolute favourite anime fight of all time while also being 30% complete is just mind blowing to me. I can only imagine what it would look like if the animators were treated right and given enough time

people hate on it or call it bad but like it perfectly captures what's happening, EVERYTHING around Mahoraga is being cut and sliced constantly to the point where nothing resembles anything but a jumble of colours mixing in a blender. then as the scene continues Mahoraga's form goes from part of the jumble in the blender to starting to reform and adapt to the situation becoming more coherent or whole. It's a very interesting and artistic way to show or rather give a different perspective of the scene than just everything and Mahoraga disintegrating in a few seconds then showing a crater.

@@draketurtle4169 thats just not what it is, you can't make out the slashes clearly, anyone who knows animation or who just looks at the scene slowly can see that these scenes were supposed to have clear detail but some animation tricks and sketch movements have been used to rush the process. Also, we have knowledge that this was rushed and unfinished so we know for a fact that this wasn't some vision or artistic choice, it was just unfinished. Even if we pretend it was an artistic choice done on purpose this wouldn't be how you should demonstrate that, you want to work backwords from a detailed clear scene by adding techniques to make it seem distorted, what they've done is the other way around, they just released something hard to follow and unclear so you get the worst of both worlds.

I like the fight a lot. It looks messy, but I like the chaotic look of it. Just wanted some scenes to have a little more polish. My only major beef with the anime was when Mahoraga was declared being able to see sukuna's slashes even though there was a good conclusion in manga with mahoraga clearly deflecting a slash into a nearby building.

One of the Mappa employees also mentioned that they were just able to animate about 30% of their original plans for their episode I'm glad u enjoyed it tho :D

​@@afamoroti​ To be fair to you, the pain vs Naruto fight has excellent animation, but it contrast so bloody heavily in terms of style to everything in the show that it ends up looking bad, because it doesn't have the style the rest of the series has. In contrast if you were to put that fight in something like mob- pyscho everyone would love it cause it matches the energy and style of that show, hence it will look amazing in that context and everyone would probably love it. Also, even if I know it was mostly due to time constraints I love how Mahoraga was so weirdly animated due to it making him look very unsettling or otherworldy which I feel fits him to be honest.

Though it's never made it hard to follow literally any other fight in this series, so I doubt my disability is even part of the reason why I couldn't really follow it. I think it's just a shame to put so much effort into a chaotic mess like this. One could probably throw in some random naked pictures and nobody would even notice it. Then the fight right after this one between two much less powerful characters ended up being way more interesting and fun to watch because of its readability. Just makes all te extra effort put into this fight scene seem like a big waste to me. Especially considering the cost. It wasn't even remotely worth it and that's the saddest part.

Yuji definitely was not able to get control, nowhere near a point where it was hindering or affecting Sukuna. The whole time, he might as well have been unconscious, since he didn't remember everything immediately after, it took him a few moments to process everything when Yuji came back. After eating so many fingers, all he could do was just try and adapt to all the power in time, which he wasn't able to. Shibuya is destroyed, and Sukuna had no trouble in doing that, Yuji stood no chance against him

@@CougheePls That's not animation though, that's artstyle. Sukuna's original domain really wasn't anything special from an animation standpoint. It's just a scroll cut and a zoom out. What you're talking about is the quality of the art. Animation is about the movement of said art. The animation in this entire episode crushes almost anything from season 1, but that's only made possible due to the looser, less detailed art. Art is entirely subjective, so of course opinions are going to vary, but if you're going to critique, at least critique the right thing because the animation for this episode surpasses almost, if not everything in season 1 (despite having legitimate flaws).
