I found this inspiring. It's a realistic look at a functional studio rather than a perfect set-up from someone who just collects supplies for youtube videos.

I truly appreciate showing your cluttered studio. I have tons of art supplies and will be moving into a condo with limited space. Not everyone has the luxury of tons of space (and I do recognize owning lots of art supplies is a sort of luxury in itself) and it's just nice to see a "not perfect" art studio. I wish you the best on meeting your financial goals so you can get your art studio built!

I go into my studio and love my “mess” because I’m able to afford real grown up art supplies and tools! Your studio like my studio are beautiful! You will have your studio where you’ll have room for everything! 👍🏼 🥰🤗

I personally find it real and refreshing to see a lived in studio. So many of us do art in whatever little space we can find and it's generally a cluttered space. It's nice to see so many pretty studios, don't get me wrong, but for many it's not immediately attainable and it gives pressure for the need to have the perfect space before you actually do art. Which is not practical or a healthy art journey. So thank you for your lived in studio. We all start here before we get someplace else.

Also which brand of masking fluid do you prefer when you need masking? I would also like to know what you think of the NY watercolor paper when you get a chance to play around with it and see how well or not so well it works. I’ve been really curious about it because it seems to be a little more affordable than some of the other brands. I just wonder if it performs well especially the cold press. Thanks for sharing Amy. I enjoyed your studio tour! I think a cluttered studio full of supplies everywhere is more realistic/representative than a perfect, spacious studio. I’m guessing most people don’t have a huge, dedicated room in their house for themselves. I have a small craft room, probably similar in size to your space. It is also FULL of every supply for every hobby interest I’ve had throughout the years. There are a ton of cricut supplies (and the old cartridges!), scrapbooking supplies, jewelry making, cake and cookie decorating, cross-stitching, acrylic painting, card-making/rubber-stamping, etc. My watercolour and gouache supplies are in a small desk beside the sofa in our family room. My craft room also gets repurposed every Nov/Dec to store and wrap Christmas gifts 😅.

It's so refreshing to see someone share their true, lived in studio with supplies on every surface and projects in various places because it's relatable. Very few of us have "Instagram perfect" work areas. In all honesty, although my room is cluttered because it's small and I have a lot of art/scrapbooking supplies, I work better when I can see what I have so to have a clean, tidy and clinical looking room wouldn't work for me because with how my mental health is, if I don't see my supplies I forget about them so they don't get used. Seeing that others work in that creative chaos is inspiring as it let's people like myself see that we are not alone, we are all sharing something we love, making 'mess' doing what we love and if others don't like that then it's their own problem. As for the lady who felt the need to comment saying that she couldn't watch your videos because your studio is too cluttered, woohoo for her and her perfect home/studio space! Don't let the door hit you on the way out! There was no need for her to even comment something like that, she could have just clicked out of your video without saying anything so don't let her negativity get to you. Keep on being true to yourself as that's what has brought this community together - your passion for art, your authenticity and your love of sharing/teaching with us 💜

Thanks for the encouraging comment! Knowing that you're opening yourself up for judgement by strangers on here when you start a channel, and then actually experiencing it, are two entirely different things! I thought I was ready, but it does still sting a little, so it means a lot to me that you and the other people who were kind enough to leave a supportive comment approve of the way I work! And actually, I feel a lot like you! I try to keep the materials that I am working with that week out, because if they are all put away, I'm not going to take the time and energy to dig them out and actually use them. I totally know where you are coming from. Thank you for taking the time to watch!

@@winterwoodsstudio I’ve had studios in the craziest of places! One summer it was in a camper by a lake … another seasons of my life I was in an unfinished basement beside the laundry and under the stairs. It wasn’t ideal because of dampness and dust from the floor boards above. I also had a studio in my front porch. It was 6x8 and had a mean slope to the south - so every time I sat at that desk I got sore abs! It was aesthetically pleasing and a lovely sunny place to work … but I had to store all my stuff in crazy places ( under the beds … under the desk, in boxes in the basement … in my kitchen drawers … it was a small house but it wasn’t ideal for having what I needed at my finger get tips!). I then moved it into a small bedroom. 9x11 … with no closets - but everything was in one place and man it was packed too! I did consider not selling that house when I moved in with my love … and just keeping the entire house as my art studio - but frankly I was tired of the maintence an entire house required. I think I should have kept it sometimes… it would have been a cute art house, but the money I sold it for helped me grow my “hoard” faster here!! :) Now I’m in a large bedroom with bay window and closet … it has a Murphy bed … and a bathroom attached ( great for clean up ) but I still long for a workspace where I can get messier! A place to cut glass, a place to do resin ( where I don’t have to smell it). A place to make frames and use stinky wood stain …. For now I just back my car out of the garage and do these things in the summer - because winter is way too cold here for that! A lot of my time is resetting the space. Taking inventory … and organizing according to what I’m working on. I try to keep close at hand the things I’m working on at the moment … and cycle through it. My point is - no matter what we have it’s always evolving and as creative people we always make it work… the most important part of any artists life is the time factor. We will make art wherever we are - as long as we have the commodity of a few moments of time :) That’s what we do!

Wow, it was like watching a stock inventory in progress at Blick Art! So many different types of art materials, all stowed away into your miniature Aladdin's Cave. And it's an amazing aspect of human memory that I bet you're able to locate almost every single supply within a few seconds when you need to. Thanks for showing us all around; I think we now know why you're keen to get hubby started on the foundations for your new art studio 🙂 Oh, and by the way, congrats on passing the 2,500 subscriber mark - another little milestone going forward. Kind regards, Brian.

I love my little space and I am SO grateful to have the supplies I do. I didn't always have such a big selection and I had to make do with the bae minimum. I am grateful every day for what I have now! I'd love to have a big studio someday, but for now, I'm glad to have any space at all! And thank you for the congratulations! I was watching it and took a screen shot when I got there! I say, celebrate the wins, right? Thanks again for taking the time to comment!

A small studio is probably what a lot of us are fortunate enough to have! That one room in the house you can confiscate for your own space! The tour was fun!

I loved this video. It was like going through a room of treasure. Everywhere you went you find something amazing. Have you ever thought of linking and making a go fund me page for here for your art studio that you want to build?

I didn't, mostly, because I didn't really think anyone would be interested in it? But I'm not always really good at asking for help, so that might have played into my decision... Thank you so much for watching!

Hullo Amy, I am just amazed at how much space you have for creating your art! You have a true lovely studio space! I know that it is easier to store paper pads on top of one another, but I encourage you to find a way to store them on edge, more upright. It will keep the surfaces less prone to damage from pressure and scratches from pads scrapping across as you drag them in and out. I keep my bigger sheets in cardboard storage boxes inside of the large canvas bags for storing unused and finished art! Itoya canvas portfolio bags are good and I use the cardboard as separators that I get when Blick’s ship me sheets of paper. The Cachet Studio Portfolios are more choices to keep paper and artworks from damage. I believe that you have done the best you can, “use what you got” to quote Lindsay, The Frugal Crafter! I don’t understand why a viewer cannot watch a video because of the background? PAY ATTENTION to what is going on with what the Artist is doing. Oh! I remember the name of the cheaper portfolios they are called “Red Wallet”. Thank you for sharing your work studio. There are several videos on bringing gouache even dried up watercolor paints back for use. Good Luck!
