I wasn't surprised that Sounding the Seventh Trumpet and Hail to the King were at the bottom spots and Nightmare and City of Evil were at the top spots, but I was a bit surprised to find the self-titled album pretty low on here, since I often considered it one of their best and I even put it as my favorite album of 2007 when I did lists of my favorite albums of each year since 1963 (Which is the oldest era of music that I'm into) Also, I don't find This Means War that bad, sure it's not really as good as I remember it but I still think it's a decent headbanger. And I do agree with you about M. Shadows' screaming on Waking the Fallen being a little too much at times.

We all knew City of Evil would be number 1. Here's my list: 7. Sounding the Seventh Trumpet (While I do think it's okay, it definitely doesn't hold up well) 6. Hail to the King (While meant to be a tribute to the artists they were influenced by, I still wish it had more energy in the drum work. Acid Rain is such an underrated song from A7X) 5. Avenged Sevenfold (I used to like a lot more a few years ago, but some of the songs are kinda cheesy. It still annoys me that they didn't have A Little Piece of Heaven as the closing track. Brompton Cocktail is also a pretty underrated track as well. ) 4. The Stage (Brooks Wackerman was definitely the right choice for their next drummer. Love the progressive tendencies of the album and Exist is amazing. My only complaint is that M. Shadows vocals can sound a bit monotone at times. ) 3. Nightmare (Probably their most mature album after the death of The Rev. I love tracks like Welcome to the Family, Natural Born Killer, God Hates Us and of course Save Me which basically takes elements from all their previous albums at the time and puts them together to make an 11 min long masterpiece. I do think So Far Away is a tad bit overrated at times. Still a good track, but what makes me cry is Fiction which I'm surprised you didn't even mention that one at all. Hearing The Rev sing during the chorus gets me emotional every time.) 2. Waking the Fallen (Even if the production is a bit dated, I love the rawness of the album. Reminissions is one of my favorite A7X tracks ever and the solo in Eternal Rest is amazing.) 1. City of Evil (I could go on and on about this album all day, but I'll leave it at this. If you're looking to get into A7X, get this album right now!)
@lagia47744 жыл бұрын
Kinda late lol but HTTK didnt had more energy in the drum work because they wanted it to sound like how it is. But on Not Ready To Die and Carry On you can definetly hear that Arin was a good drummer, he also played the older songs solid. In the end it was just not a good time for Arin to join the band, i wish they kept him a bit longer and bring at least one more Album with him. But Brooks Wackermann is a great guy too and im hyped when they bring a new Album.

Good to see my second favorite band getting some love. Thanks Jon. Sorry for this being so long, but As for my ranking, from worst to best, I would say the worst is Hail to the King, which is, in my opinion, unoriginal, bland and lifeless. I'll almost never listen to songs like Planets and Requiem. The only songs I really like here are Crimson Day, Acid Rain, and the incredible Coming Home. Then, Self-titled. It's not bad at all, some of the songs like Gunslinger and the awful Scream don't appeal to me at all. However, I absolutely love songs like Dear God and Afterlife. Next, Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, which I really liked. My favorite track, and my 5th favorite song is Shattered by Broken Dreams, which is, in my opinion, towering and incredible. Next, The Stage. It was a great comeback from HTTK, giving us awesome songs like the title track, Paradigm, the epic Exist, and it gets downright scary with Simulation, (look up the song's meaning) and one that means a lot to me personally, Higher. Then, City of Evil, which nailed an epic sound, and gave us awesome moments, like the final chorus to Beast and the Harlot, and the entirety of MIA. In second, Waking the Fallen. I'm head over heels for I Won't see you tonight, which is a great homage to Pantera's legendary Suicide Note, Clairvoyant Disease, the chilling Chapter Four, and the awesome breakdown on And All Things Will End. On top, my second favorite album of all, Nightmare. I cannot put into words how much I love this album. It means so much to me, and Save Me almost brings me to tears sometimes.

I also like to mention that my ex-girlfriend and I actually used So Far Away for a tribute video that we did for one of our favorite KZbinrs, Angry Grandpa after he passed away last year, cause he himself said A7X was one of his favorite bands and since the song itself was dedicated to The Rev, I thought it would be perfect.

Before I even watch the video, I think Nightmare should be number 1. The pain of A7X losing Jimmy is so prevalent. The writing is god tier. I have so much respect for this album. That said, they have been my favorite band for the past 12+ years. This is my personal list. 7.) Sounding the Seventh Trumpet 6.) Waking the Fallen 5.) Hail to the King 4.) City of Evil 3.) Avenged Sevenfold 2.) The Stage 1.) Nightmare Again, this is my preference. Not chart performance. *EDIT* I think Acid Rain would of flowed so well if it was on The Stage. It fit the theme so well. Maybe one of the first three tracks.

Lost is a dope song. The autotune is used as an artistic statement, not as a way to cover up poor singing. Awesome solo. Catchy hook. Definitely doesn't deserve the hate. But I agree that the s/t gets too much praise. Nightmare and The Stage are much better.
@corbinm52376 жыл бұрын
That album is extremely top heavy to me. Afterlife,Almost Easy,and A Little Piece Of Heaven are great songs (Almost Easy’s kick ass instrumentals make up for the “cheesy” lyrics). The rest of them aren’t that good in my opinion. Besides that,my biggest problem is that the nasally aspect of M. Shadows’ vocals really shows on that album. His vocals are and always have been nasally,but it shows more on that album than any of the others.
@ggPUNX6 жыл бұрын
@@____smith I know that the autotune is used as an artistic choice rather than a poor performance, M. Shadows can definitely sing. Hell, my favorite band uses autotune that way fairly often. I just think that used in this context by Avenged Sevenfold with M. Shadows's voice just does not work at all. Personally, it ruins the song for me. But it totally does have positive factors to it.

My Top 10 favorite A7X songs: 10. Sheppard of Fire (this and NRTD were what got me into A7X. These two songs will hold a special place in my heart because, for one, they're in my favorite game. And two, the low brass in SoF is just MMM) 9. Welcome to The Family (One of the classics. A lot of great vocals and drums in this one) 8. Dose (I just started listening to this song and my God, it's amazing) 7. Blinded in Chains (this song and Critical Acclaim accurately describe the world we live in) 6. Beast and the Harlot (Jimmy's drum solo is ear candy🔥) 5. Nightmare (playing SCP: Containment Breach with this song is a perfect duo imo) 4. So Far Away (really emotional and hits hard for me personally because I remember loved ones who passed away and I feel like they're "so far away") 3. Natural Born Killer (the constant fast movement gets my adrenaline rushing) 2. Afterlife (Bass at the beginning gives me chills like no other. And the suspension feeling towards 3:25) 1. Buried Alive (A7X's Stairway to Heaven. I love how the ending part is upbeat and kickass)

stst is the best album, you just have to hear it over and over again. I personally love the screams and the rev's performance. every music is original and important in this album and personally it doesn´t have the repeitive structure like on newer albums. people hate this album due to it's qualtity and probably matt's screams, I know it is not har to digest it (i've been there) but trust me, if you have a little more tolerance to matt's screams you are going to love it, just concentrate really hard.

Its really interesting to see people put sounding the seventh trumpet and waking the fallen lower than most of their new stuff. To me Waking the Fallen and Sounding the seventh trumpet take the first and second spot for me respectively. To this day I remember vividly by name and sound from the first album: To End the Rapture,Turn the Other Way, The Art of Subconscious Illusion, We Come Out at Night, Lips of Deceit, An Epic of Time Wasted, Breaking Their Hold, Forgotten Faces, and Shattered by Broken Dreams. The raw vocals and rigid instrumentation were just superb and a capsule of rock at that time. Then waking the fallen was the revamping and evolution of those primal sounds into a more accessible album. Everything after that while was just as great, looking back those two albums made the band what it was for me. So for a list: 1: Waking The Fallen - Depressing, Romantic, and angry, this album has it all and is most peoples favorites 2: Sounding The Seventh Trumpet - Raw and guttural, a predecessor to the best album they have made which was expanded upon 3: City of Evil - An emphasis on variety in instrumentation and subject matter, this album made them into the mainstream with a good compromise to accessibility and rock 4: The Stage - An album that focuses more on the universe and human condition, Its the first progressive album they have ever made 5: Nightmare - A album with much emotion tied to The Revs passing, a great send off for the lost drummer. 6: Avenged Sevenfold - This album is seems more so exploratory than concise, produced many bangers but ultimately doesnt quite compare to other albums. 7: Hail to the King - An meh album, but not a good avenged sevenfold album. Their music already paid homage so to focus more so really backfired with this one by removing originality.

ST7T is a bit weird for people who became a fan of A7X since City Of Evil. Waking The Fallen was weird for somebody too. I couldn't agree with ST7T, but Waking The Fallen is definetely their best album (City of Evil close) and the iconic metalcore album.
@princelink60046 жыл бұрын
7. Sounding The Seventh Trumpet: Yeah, it’s really weird to hear this from Avenged. 6. Hail To The King: Mixed terribly. The drums are way to loud and they didn’t track enough guitars. Some good songs though. 5. The Stage: Pretty good, but generic sometimes 4. City of Evil: It’s really good, but it’s so fast it gets tedious sometimes (my same problem with Slipknot). I also think M. Shadows vocals don’t sound that good on this album. 3. Avenged Sevenfold: Love the experimentation with new sounds and all the strings and horns. I can see why people hate it, but I love it. 2. Waking the Fallen: As a guitarist, this album has some of the best guitar riffs I’ve ever heard. Also like M. Shadows mix of screaming and singing on the album. 1. Nightmare: Perfect mix of the experimentation from the self titled and the raging headbangers from City of Evil. The perfect culmination of their sound.
