I still think AVP2 is the best of the AVP games. The Marine campaign in particular was excellent. I did like AVP 2010 as well, but it is definitely flawed. But man, the graphics are still great in HD. Miss getting single player focused Aliens or Predator games. Aliens fireteam elite is definitely not a single player game.
@JahlisMan3 жыл бұрын
yes, thank you! AvP2 *never* gets the credit it deserves. I know it's probably 'cause you can't buy it anymore, but still. it has everything: amazing and diverse gameplay, tons of fanservice, atmosphere for days... and *amazing* plot! it really is a puzzle, to solve which you need to complete all 3 campaigns. It's one of the best written of its genre, imo. excluding everything about Frosty, of course:)
@Gruntvc3 жыл бұрын
@JahlisMan, I agree, probably because it isn't available for purchase on any current digital pcgaming platforms nor was it ported to consoles. I think the original Xbox could've handled it. I keep hoping for a remaster, given that both AVP 1 Classic 2000 and AVP 2010 are still readily available on Steam or GOG. Heck, AVP 2010 is backwards compatible on Xbox One X and Xbox Series X too. 2001 was truly an excellent year for FPS games: AVP2, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Halo CE, Operation Flashpoint Cold War Crisis, Ghost Recon, and Red Faction. Dang... Been waiting 20 years for a true follow up to AVP2. Still haven't gotten it. Maybe I'd settle for a follow up to AVP 2010. But, the Mouse demands cheaply made online only focused games...

One thing to note about the fmvs in AVP 1999. Those ones in the video are not the originals and are in fact the devs. The original release had actual actors that did a similarly cheesy job but were replaced in the Gold re-release on sites such as Steam, apparently this was to get out of paying them royalties or something

As a kid, Extinction was one of my favorite games. At first I didn't understand it as a fan of games like halo and battlefront, but once I got the hang of it I loved it. I would spend hours on a single mission making my Xenomorph army as large and strong as possible, wishing it had a survival mode so I could see how far I could take my army. I will say that the Predator and Human campaigns I didn't like as much because it didn't feel like you were actually playing out situations that would've happened, but I loved simulating an Alien hive, and bringing unconscious bodies back to the hive just like the movies.

Had lots of good times in avp 2010. Knocking down the other humans with your shotgun to leave them defenseless for a horde of rushing aliens was always enjoyable Or that you were invincible during an assassination animation but they were so Long that an enemy was always waiting behind you to assassinate you as soon as you finish, and then someone waits behind them and soon enough it's a conga line of people patiently waiting to jump behind you as soon as you started to assassinate the last guy The asymmetric pvpvp modes were always fun as well. The predator weapons specifically the spinning disc were very interesting since they would follow where ever you looked even after you threw it. Only game I can think of that has done something similar since is one of the titans in titanfall 2

AvP2 Primal Hunt was REALLY good, and it's a shame you weren't able to get some heavier gameplay in. The intertwining of the campaigns was much stronger (you literally die at the end of the Predator storyline to the chestburster that becomes the Predalien in the second), the Predalien is less speed and stealth and more power and durability, and it's interesting to play as a Weyland-Yutani Merc rather than a Marine...even if the facehuggers are stupidly difficult to deal with.

@JahlisMan3 жыл бұрын
Primal Hunt would be fine if the balance wasn't so... not there. the amount of enemies it throws at you is baffling, and that's across all 3 campaigns. it's a shooter, yet I found myself in a survival horror repeatedly once where I just didn't have enough ammo in *any* weapon to deal with a horde that was accompanied by a Praetorian. yet I had to kill them all, or the lift wouldn't open. so that save was useless, had to start again. and Predalien's ending bit with all those mechs is kinda bullshit too:D

my favourite thing in AVP classic was doing skirmish mode with the Predator and throwing the disc around the map when it was full of aliens. @@doomslayer1210 You can also see via shadows that the Praetorian skin from multiplayer is equipped for that mission, but that could just be an oversight as in the mission afterward you’re back to playing as the normal skin, and 6 never started mutating into a praetorian until after the Matriarch had died

What could've been cool for the marines, much like with the alien case of not regaining health, is he would be replaced with a different guy upon death, starting in a different part of the place if not in the grip, and had to collect necessites from his comrade's corpse where he fell. I guess much of the same could be said for the predator's death/life mechanics as well, except they all have their own equipment and that's it.

I really loved AVP Extinction. I played a few strategy and RTS games and being able to play one when I didn't have access to the family computer was pretty cool. In addition, the stories were actually sneakily intertwined when you pay close attention. The other trick was the way you get those time trial bonuses was to not wait. You didn't need to max out on your armies to win the level nor did you need to wait for the atmos generator to complete before moving on fix it and just keep moving the money will roll in and you will be able to call reinforcements as you move either way. There were also advance commands for formations that helped the combat aspect of things a little. The bad pathing of units in an RTS is a very common problem in a lot of RTS games so seeing it here was neither a surprise nor something that bothered me it is just part of the genre.

I think all the extended lore alien, predator, and marine types we see in AVP Extinction are the best part about it. I've played plenty of rts games and it's pretty sub par but it was made for consoles. It would be cool to see some of the stuff like the giant aliens, military predators, and combat mechs show up in other future games in the franchise but it probably won't happen. I remember playing AVP Evolution on my tablet in middle school, I found all the secrets and had the berserker set for both characters. It would be cool if the berserker alien showed up in Fire team. I think a problem with games in this license is the teams seem afraid to experiment with weapons, enemies, etc, they don't want to draw on extended lore and what not.

Also, playing with a controller on AVP99 is a terrible idea, trust me the game was made for keyboard and mouse and a lot of the times in the footage your crosshairs is jerking around unnaturaly because if it. Seems more frustrating than what’s it’s worth.

I think it's issues related to the Classic 2000 edition of AVP1 that's available digitally on Steam or GOG. I too have experienced bad AI. And the FMV sequences were changed from the base AVP 1999 game. Probably best to play AVP1 with mouse and keyboard. Though you'd think it'd work since Rebellion made AVP on the Atari Jaguar and they were more console focused. They apparently wanted to port AVP 1999 to the Sega Dreamcast, but it was cancelled. Real shame as Dreamcast did offer a mouse and keyboard control option too.
