Yeah, but I think they changed their minds after ABC showed The Day After in 1983 and then the BBC decided to make their own version which they already had the premise for the script The War Game and came up with Threads in 1984.

@VermyScrubs
@VermyScrubs 2 ай бұрын
It was broadcast in 1985, shortly before a rerun of Threads as that time was close to the 40th Anniversary of the Hiroshima Bombings so that might of contribute to the BBC changing their attitude. However, they still were strict about it because it and Threads aired on BBC2, the adult oriented, experimental focus younger brother of BBC1, the general family entertainment that for some bloody reason, the War Game was going to premiere on.

@@andreikovacs3476 No? That is either very different in your continent or an outright lie/exaggeration. About every university I've worked in has a dedicated morgue with body donors who pre-death signed a contract to be dissected by medical students for the very purpose of teaching future doctors (and nurses, sometimes firemen/EMTs and policemen) how human anatomy in situ actually looks like. There is no "splatter" or "not very fresh" or "disfigured" per se. If the person pre-death was disfigured - sure. Fresh? The corpse is specifically and specially preserved and put into a tank with chemical preservation pre-autopsy. No stinky dissolved corpse there, even if the body is months or sometimes years old. And it is always treated with respect. If you cannot do that as a student - you are done. Out. Never to become a legit practitioner.

I totally agree. This whole thing feels like a 'did you know?' channel with yet another blown-up Reddit thread shoved into a single video. Also the fact that they're imaging 'autistic' as someone who's crazy/retarded. The whole video is childish and blatantly spamming (even outdated and debunked) 'facts' or western propaganda without mentioning sources, or trying to stay neutral about the information they're providing as entertainment. What people (and this channel) don't get about independent documentaries that even though they're coming from a single source; that doesn't mean the studio and/or person behind the camera isn't biased, secretly funded or spreading some kind of political message. I can agree that the Soviet people have suffered a lot in the development of their socialistic system. But calling the famine a tool to oppress said people is a crazy lie. As if Stalin himself came Ukraïne with a comically large spoon to eat all the grain in front of the starving children. The famine was a man-made one and partly due to the collectivization and unrealistic production-quotas the five-year plan brought forward. But it was also a result two droughts and Kulaks setting their own means of production on fire while keeping away grain to sell illegally, and not complying with orders because they obviously wanted the whole state-owned farm thing to fail. I recommend watching Hakim's video's for people unaware of some western lies about the horrible events that happened in China and the Soviet-Union. Because the information that this and many video provides about it is too black and white. Also please look up the telegram story between Sholokhov and Stalin. Even though the Union partly caused the famine doesn't mean that they wished for it to happen.

As someone who lives in the release country of "The Soviet Story" (and is a history major) you can trust me on the take that we consider this documentary pretty obsolete by contemporary history research standards. It can serve the purpose of expressing the general idea of Soviet atrocities, but other than that is just... really mid.

I have heard about "The act of Killing" controversy surrounding but in the end never got to hear more about it. But man 1965 onward was the most sensless violent years of this country that no one ever talked about even to this day long after Suharto already died. We watched Soviet Story on history classes at school. After a few minutes I had to put on my headphones and do my homework, sitting as far from the screen as possible, while trying not to start crying or run out of classroom. It got me scared of war documentaries in general (we were 12 I think and I was quite a sensitive kid), so... Good job, I guess. I have never watched a war documentary since then.
