I think a lot of us watch you for comfort, and I believe that if you ever wanted to wander off and create more non-book content along with some book content, most of us would be pretty happy with it. Just in case you found yourself running out of book content ideas, I think your non-book content would be just as well consumed. Keep smiling and stay safe :)

The fact that you just read is enough. The amount of books we read in a year is truly different to all of us since we lead different lives and are in different stages and phases of life. Just deciding to pick a book up and read is enough to be a reader, it doesn’t matter the amount that you read if you love it 🥰.

I barely read in 2020... the pandemic hit me hard & I was just too depressed to read. I feel like booktube is a lot about, "look how many books I've read this month" I will legit get on booktube and talk about the 1 book I read all month. I'm not in competition with this community. I read what I want when I want. It should be fun. It shouldn't feel like work. "I'm reading for me..." love it!

One hundred percent with you on the whole "consuming as many stories as possible" thing -- I can only hold so many stories _truly_ close to my heart, and being able to do so is what I find the most fulfilling about reading. That goes double for fictional stories, because in the best case scenario with a fictional story, I connect to and cherish the characters the way I connect to and cherish friends, and I'm a very introverted person who only feels the need for so many friends. The idea of not having space for more makes total sense to me.

i get this so much! i read 60 books in 2020 but sometimes i feel like i barely read anything because a lot of the books i read were in the 3 star range (not bad, but nothing special) and they won't stick with me for very long in the future. i think watching booktube and creating goodreads challenges for myself has definitely decreased my love for reading in some even if it has made me read more. for example, after immediately finishing a book i think to myself "hm, how many stars would i give this on goodreads and why?" instead of just reading it for the fun and joy of reading. while i still love watching booktube and am so thankful for the amazing books i've discovered that i maybe wouldn't otherwise, i miss the carefree nature of preteen-teenage me who would just read whenever i wanted and whatever i wanted. and this is just from a booktube watcher! i can't imagine the pressure those of you making videos may feel. i thank you so much for all the videos you've made over the years and i love watching your content so much. i hope you have a great 2021 :)

I can relate to what you said about pressuring yourself into reading for the sake of creating content, although I'm not a content creator I do the GR challenge every year and I always feel frustrated when I see other people reading hundreds or even thousands or books every year when I can do 30 if I'm lucky. Which leads me to hit some really awful reading-slumps way too often because I try to read more and so I have up to 7 books at any given time and if I finish two of those that's a lot. Anyway, I think you've expressed exactly how I feel most of the time about books and you're absolutely right: no one should read for others because that doesn't make any sense. So I'm taking your words to heart and I'll do my best this year to remember why I love reading so much instead of streaming over how many books I'll be able to read. Thank you so much! It's great to have you back! 💜

Yay!!!! I love when booktubers do and read what they want! We want to watch whatever you want to create! I think most viewers would feel terrible if we knew you were upset and suffering because of booktube pressure :( we want joy and ease for you above all else. ♥️

I think I read like 57 books this year, but I genuinely don't remember most of them. For years I have pressured myself to read at least 50 books every year and at some point I stopped reading the books I liked and just started reading what I saw everyone on booktube reading and I think that really altered my relationship with books for awhile. I suddenly did not want anything to do with reading or books and took a really long break from reading. HOWEVER I did read some great books in 2020, including Chain of Gold!! I loved it so much and consider it to be my fav Cassie Clare book of all time. It honestly is THE perfect book. I also really enjoyed reading Where the Crawdads Sing, My Dark Vanessa, Anxious People, Little Women, Get A Life Chloe Brown, and the Avatar comics. Happy to see your gorgeous face and can't wait for more content from you ❤️

I read In the Dreamhouse because of you and it was so beautiful and haunting. One of the books that has stuck with me the most. I need to read Her Body & Other Parties soon. Also, I cannot wait to finally read Chain of Gold!! Sending you positive energy for the new year! :)

Oh I really recognize the rereading part. I also used to reread all of my favourites! Now I want to reread a lot of favs from before, but I also want to reduce my huge TBR... I'll think I'll try to do both this year, at my pace. You are completely valid when you say you want to stop reading for other people. Reading should be fun! So do whatever you like & what makes you happy

i read the least of amount of books i've read in a year in 2020 and honestly seeing you and other ppl in comment section is strangely comforting ? sometimes you just can't do things that you usually find joy in and that is okay

Love hearing your voice its so nice and I will say I will watch what ever you put out so no pressure to do just book stuff. Also dont feel like you have to post so many times a week or month because speaking just for myself it gives me so much anxiety trying to keep up with all the booktube people posting all the time that I am trying to just keep up with wrap ups and TBRS right now and watching everything on 1.5 speed to get through them, so its nice that like you and a dash of ash have been taking a more laid back approach to uploading.

Don't think for a moment that the people who truly love your content will disappear. That's something you should never force yourself to care about or try to "make up for" with book content. Reading should be a pleasurable experience. We're here because you're an extremely bright and endearing person and seeing your journey through life and creativity makes us happy. I feel so understood whenever I watch your videos, no matter what you decide to make them about. Do what makes you feel good, sis. That being said, I adored the video and your insight.

honestly this video made me feel so much better about not reading a lot in 2020 because it sort of felt like I had so much time on my hands YET I didn't read excessively, when honestly its normal to not enjoy the things you usually enjoy when your routine isn't "normal" anymore. Thanks Hannah!

I read more than I ever did this year because of escapism (to be fair I don't watch many series in the first place), but I understand what you said at the beginning. I think it's something a lot of people needed to hear, reading for yourself is more important than reading for booktube. That being said, thank you for sharing the books you read! Slowly making my way through the shadowhunter books and can't wait to pick up Chain of Gold one day :D I hope 2021 will be a better year for you no matter if you read more or less 💖

Hannah: “I only read 8 books this year.” Me: *counts** “... 1... 2... 3. 3 books.” (One was “Find a Stranger, Say Goodbye” by Lois Lowry and it was AMAZING. It’s now one of my favorite books of all time. Totally recommend.)
