Literally messi and robben do the same thing regularly to much better defenders. It's not like he's coming up square to the defenders, he usually receives the ball in a position that already gives him the advantage on his marking defender. He's a lefty, it's like fighting a southpaw, you train most of your life for a right footed player so unless you're an absolute professional defender (which is actually what the MLS constantly gets bombed on for lacking) you're gonna have a hard time going against a seasoned European football vet who has been doing the same thing to much better players.

I come here after watching Messi win the League cup just to compare. Vela was 30 during this season and Messi is 36 but Vela plays as beautiful and as skillful as Messi.
